Solid Purple (and pix)

93 Ty spotted in W9 (London, England) #2181 - bit worn, had a dent in hood on left side, stock wheels, ATR exhaust . I had a sticker on the tailgate said "BountyHunter" and violet colored Typhoon graphics.

I left a note for the driver to call me.
(got some pics of it too.)

The camera I used was a disposable one, so pics aren't of the highest quality, and honestly don't do the color justice, but it is a deep purple color

( the Typhoon graphics are in the wrong place so it cant be original after all)

I agree, they are very bad logos, Merk is on the case to see if its an original Radar Ty, altho he knows alot about it, the color is not something he can confirm..............yet :wink:

no, i think with trucks like the couple of radar blues and raspberries the price to buy one would be enough for a potential, unknowing buyer to ask "why so expensive?" after finding out i doubt they would get goofy ren&stimpy lookin typhoon decals

gotta be a repaint anyway, radar blue is definitively dark blue as opposed to this :rainbow1: purple one

I'm 99% sure that you are looking at THE ONLY KNOWN '93 Radar Blue Typhoon.


By way of research and a few phone calls...even going back to notes from years ago....looks as though we've stumbled across a rarity.

For a little background, PWA (Pontiac West Assembly) developed 6 new color combinations for the 1993/1994 Production year. They were:

Radar Blue
Raspberry
Bahama Blue
Light French Blue
Ultra Silver
Teal

GM did indeed factory paint some Typhoons the Radar Blue color as well as the Raspberry color. It is unknown at this time if the other 4 colors made it onto Typhoons.

Since the colors were pre-production colors, a special code was built into the RPO sheet on each truck.

I have heard firm rumors (resourceful individuals) that Bahama Blue and Teal made it to Typhoons, but no hard evidence yet. BTW, the Teal would be different from those found on the 92 Sonoma GT and Typhoon. From what I hear, the Bahama Blue is a KNOCK-OUT color combo.

Quite possibly this Typhoon was part of some kind of an autoshow as it was built 4-16-1993 and has a high VIN [ 2181/2200 ]

How it landed in the U.K. is beyond me.

Hopefully Adam, you can track down this owner again and get some greasy details.

Brian, you dont happen to have any kind of picture of a Bahama Blue Typhoon, do you? Sounds seriously cool (I have always been a sucker for the Aspen Blue, can't imagine how cool bahama must be!)

And by the way, the fact that you could pull that much information on that truck just boggles my mind. Anways, time for me to go plan my trip to the UK

he merk. I have two pictures of different radar blue ty's. Were there only 2 made in 92? Are those perhaps the ones i have?

I have one more thats different from these two. I have to find it. So i guess i really have three different radar blues unless these are not real.

Seems odd to me that the truck is not sporting the original Typhooo\n logo's. Id bet a few beers it is a respray, at least cladding and tailgate. Doesnt mean it isnt a rare color, but the lack of original emblems is telling.

If you look REALLY REALLY REALLY....I mean REALLY close at the 1993 photo you posted, you can see the exact same Typhoon lettering.

The typhoon in the show setting is Hunter Hasbrooks Royal Blue typhoon that he painted. Correct Mr. Lopez? Yes, he painted it Radar Blue.

Typhoon Tim's is certified legit..and hold the paperwork to it as verification.

There was a post about Typhoon Tim's Ty today, and I believe he sold it for under $11k, and someone remarked that it was a mess, however, I really wasn't paying much attention, so I might not have read it correctly.

For what's it's worth, probably nothing.

This is actually Hunter's truck - his was a repaint, originally was a blue/grey Ty that had a T-boning. Not an original.

Ultra Silver, Teal, Raspberry, and Radar Blue are the colours of the PPG Syclone, along with some shade of green. Don't quote me on that, I just think I remember Merk mentioning something along those lines.
As far as I'm aware, none of the test colour trucks aside from Radar Blue and Metallic Raspberry have been found, though Bahama Blue is still thought to exist somewhere.
