Some Goodies for the Ty

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

So today I got the injectors in and that went well. I decided to put the 50# chip in as well this evening. So I take the ECM out and notice that the sticker that voids the warranty if you cut it had been slit. I thought that was weird, guess my truck had a chip in it at one point... It turns out I had a freakin' Hypertech chip it in all along. The guy I bought it from didn't know about it either I guess, or he would have told me about it. I read up on these things and they suck! I'm glad my motor hasn't blown as long as I've been runnin' this thing. So off it goes and on with Phil's chip. This feels good to get out of there. I'm still a little confused on how the turbo reclocks. I read up on that too, but I'm lost. It just doesn't look like the compressor housing is going to want to spin around if I loosen the clamp, it looks like it would want to spin at the clamp. Hopefully Jeremy will have a little time to help me out tomorrow. Give me a call dude. And to hell with the Hypertech!

Very cool about finding the Hypercrap chip - no wonder your truck ran so crappy! Soak those turbo bolts with some PB blaster...I'll give you a call tomorrow man. Did you put a 3-bar MAP sensor in yet? PM me your phone number again just in case I can't find it.

Sweet. I was having issues getting the new chip to fit in the ECM box attached to the stocker. I guess I could have you look at that tomorrow if I don't get it figured out. I don't know if we have any PB, but I'll see what I can find. I haven't put the 3 bar on yet, but I should be able to slap that thing on in the morning. I'll PM you my #.

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

Well, I'm hopin' to get a bunch done this weekend, but there's still quite a bit to do. I got my SS braided hose and fittings today for my B&M aux. tranny cooler. I'll mount that and route the lines in the morning. I hope to get some gauge fittings put in (oil psi back by the sender by distributor and water fitting temp sending unit). One question about that; I want to replace the sending unit that goes to the stock gauge (because it doesn't seem to be working properly), not the one that the ECM reads. Is that the one on the drivers side head or the one on the intake manifold? Then, I hope to get the turbo clocked and make a bracket for the actuator. With the Phil Long chip, am I just gonna wanna ditch all that boost control stuff and get a manual boostvalve? In otherwards, is it all useless now that I have that chip? Anyways, then comes putting the A2A and Alky Kit all on and together. Still quite a bit of stuff, but all reasonable. I appreciate any tips and I'll keep ya updated (hopefully with pics too)

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

The sensor at the front/top of the intake is the one the gauge reads; the one in the driver's side head is for the ECM. As you saw last weekend, I moved my ECM sender to the front of the intake where the turbo coolant hard-line used to be:

That's the one for the oil pressure gauge? My oil pressure gauge doesn't work at all right now and I saw told the bulb(?) near the distributor is bad. I hate driving around not knowing my oil pressure. Anyone know where exactly and what I need to change it?

(Not trying to jack thread)

No, that one is for the water temp. Oil psi sending unit is behing motor by distributor. It's a bitch to get to. I'll still have to hook mine up b/c my oil gauge didn't work either. I think I'm just gonna replace that sending unit with the fittings I got w/ my gauge. I'm not sure how to fix the stock unit. Mine pegged over, I hear it's a common problem.

Well, looks like I don't have a oil pressure gauge until I get my engine rebuilt/built. Which is hopefully a long time from now

Nice stuff! Let us know how the TC control works and how hard it is to install, we'll be needing one soon.

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

oh the oil pressure problem is the obviously the sending unit. if ou have your dist. out it is pretty easy.

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

Sweet, is it the sending unit that would peg the gauge all the way over? If so, that'd probably be a good fix. I just don't think I can/should try to haggle up the money to do the turbo and stall at the moment. I'm thinking this'll be enough for now, and once I have the money, the A2A won't be too hard to pull out to get to the turbo/downpipe/etc. And if you're there to help out for smog, that get's rid of one of my biggest worries... By the way, reclocking the turbo wasn't too bad, once you get that SOB snap ring out that is. The GT35R is lookin good though, it's very tempting. I think that's what I'll want when the time comes. Thanks for suggestions and stuff guys, I appreciate it. I'll post more pics of progress tomorrow, although it probably won't look like much.

The B&M unit works great imo. I took it for a drive with that together before I tore the truck apart. It does exactly what I wanted it to do. I bypassed the wire that causes the TC to unlock when you hit the brakes, it's all based on speed and throttle i guess. It wasn't too bad of an install, pretty straight forward, just time consuming like any car project.

Looking good man. What did you use to cut the hole in the fender? Looks like a clean cut.

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

Thaaanks. I used mostly a dremmel with a small cutoff wheel. Some was done with sheet metal cutters. It came out ok, I still could have gotten away with cutting less.

Re: Some Goodies for the Ty

nice. thats a project and a 1/2. engine stock?? how many miles?? I will be sure to let you by if I see you flying down 280 or 101. We have all got to get together one day and BS on our trucks. This is all so new to me and I could use any info I can get my hands on.

I'm in the same boat as you and would love to get together with other people and learn a lot of stuff about these beasts... I forgot, where are you located at again?
