Some questions??

Hey guys, i just bought a motor that has been sitting for a little while and i need some advise.
I used a bore scope to look inside the cylinders and the #2 cylinder wall had a little surface rust on it about .5" fat by about 3" long. Is that going to cause any problems or does it need to be removed before starting??
And i also noticed that most of the valve seats also had some minor ammounts of surface rust. Is this also something to worry about or will running the motor get rid of all of this?
Let me know guys. Thanks, Paul Z.

Re: Some questions??

That's what I would do bro. You have too much money wrapped up in the thing to just throw it together. It should at least get pulled apart and get your stamp of approval first.

Re: Some questions??

It's just surface moisture that turned into rust. It will be gone very quickly. If it was starting to pit then you would have some slight cyclinder leakage. From what you discribed it is minior.

Re: Some questions??

It couldnt hurt to re-do the head and intake gaskets anyway, I say pull it apart and inspect it, make sure there wasnt a crack anywhere.

Re: Some questions??

My old 327 sat for 8 years without a start ... started and ran great, and then another 2 year timeframe and ran the same , started right up with no smoke on OLD gas, lol. Maybe I dont wanna see what the cylinder walls look like now , hahaha ... but lucky for me I dont have the tools you have ;) .

I know this isnt the best response, lol ... but its a first hand experience :) ---
