You should have tried to back up on the hill, usually works.
would work better if it was a rear driver  ... the problem is it's a long and steep hill (it's the steepest allowable grade, and the total length is something along the order of a 1/4 mile)

Truck update: Bedliner is more or less cured, seems to be good. Motor is sitting in the truck, ready to be fired, just need to hook up some wires and the exhaust. Will see how that goes tomorrow, maybe.

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

Well, I failed. So close. Motor coughed and fired 3 cylinders (made me jump too, the headers were louder than I thought  ) ... fuel pump wouldn't run :banghead: so I couldn't get the motor running, but we gave it a shot of starter fluid and it fired on the second turn... so we know it will work eventually. I think the fuel pump just needs to be grounded (forgot about the chassis ground that hooks to the core support... which isn't there  )

Anyway, I'm back at school now so all progress halts until Easter time probably

Yeah, they're 2wd but I bet they'd fit a 4wd because they hug the block pretty tightly... I think they make them for the 4wd too... edelbrock ti-tech tubular headers

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

found one fuel problem, now holding too little FP to run. :dunno: ... otherwise, got the floor pans cleaned and coated, going to try and install the entire interior tomorrow. Hopefully, next weekend the rest of the drivetrain will be in and painting will commence in earnest

Will have a few pics tomorrow night (forgot my camera patch cable)

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

Did the floorpans inside and out, and laid insulation today. Did not get the carpet in, next weekend will be getting all over that. Spent the whole morning and about 2 hours this afternoon troubleshooting the fuel system with no success.
Also coated the inner fenders

Can see the new flywheel in place, as well as the headers.

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

I believe, at least have convinced myself that I believe, that I bought the very last part for this truck yesterday. Fuel pump and brake line.

I have created a check list for this weekend, I am hoping with assistance of several other people to get the tranny fully installed in the truck, as well as the exhaust system. Going to try and finish of the new carpet and interior, then go for getting the PS pump rebuilt and reinstalling all the accesories to the engine so I can commence reconstructing the front end with new sheetmetal. Then I'm going to start sanding and priming things

Is your flywheel the light weight one from GM? I pick up a light weight one for $115.00 thru my contacts at GM. I installed it in a 88 S-10 shortbed and now I getting ready to take it out because my daughter is getting the truck, so the heavy flywheel is going in.

Yes, this is the GM 153t lightweight wheel w/ external balance (it's actually from an IROC-Z) ... weighs in just a shade under 17lbs. I paid $170 including shipping, IIRC the wheel itself cost just shy of $150.

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

Well, today was an uphill battle start to finish. Got the fuel pump replaced, but cracked the sending unit... probably going to fire it anyway and just clamp the line for now. Got the interior work started anyway. Got the tranny installed (that went well, except lining up the throwout bearing was a pain). Found out that the converter wasn't expanded as it was supposed to be so I have no exhaust past the 2.5" y pipe. Did get one of the three broken brake lines done. Most likely doing the other tomorrow. Also succeeded in slicing open the knuckle that just finished healing from an encounter with my die grinder

If I get real lucky, the truck might just move under it's own power tomorrow

Alright, rant off, some pics

Well, tackled the interior today, and got it all in excpet the radio (missing the mount screws) and the sill plates (also missing mount screws  )

Yes, I realize it isn't a 6 speed, but vette's didn't have T-5's  ... I'll figure out how to fix it sooner or later

and the clincher : IT RUNS :D

Can anyone explain to me why the wheel would be spinning if it was in neutral :dunno: ? ... I admit, there's no fluid in my clutch so I couldn't disengage it, but still

Also need to tackle a small (or not so small  ) idle problem... truck was idling about 2200 RPM in that video... not entirely sure why

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

I think I may have solved my high idle problem, awaiting confirmation in my other thread.

Also, decided to use my sig pic as a project meter... it should show the most accurate state of the GT I can depict

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

No pictures, because there is really nothing to see.
-Got the brake lines all buttoned up and bled
-fixed the radio problem and got that installed
-fixed the ash tray.
-tried to get a new seatbelt (the one in the truck has no return spring) but broke every T50 I own trying   .
-have the exhaust in the truck - still needs adjusted but it's all there.
-Fuel system is buttoned up as well (runs finally  )
-it has wheels :D (and my Borbets are fixed too)
-tried to finish the clutch up, but was having difficulty getting it bled out

Still alot left to do, but it's coming together pretty quickly now. Hopefully I will be able to finish throwing all this random stuff at it next weekend and have it driveable (going to try and have it registered and inspected for Jimmy's, but I highly doubt it will be painted)

Re: Sonoma GT 519 - the rebuild saga (picture intense)

Doesn't look like much, but made a lot of progress this weekend. Except for bleeding the clutch, installing a fan belt and the water neck, the truck is mechanically complete. All that is left is reinstalling body panels.

My dad and brother are going to work on putting all the sheetmetal back on and getting the clutch bled out (stubborn thing, doesn't want to cooperate).

If you need a better cooling fan, use one for a 2001 GMC Safari

I think the fan ought to be fine, although I will say I was very irritated when it turned out the new waterpump had a slighlty wider bolt circle than my fan... so I had to elongate the holes to make it fit. Oh well

Did you paint the valve covers? I have some chrome ones that you can have real cheap
