sonoma gt brakes

Yes I drive a Typhoon.
Anyone know if a front brake upgrade (larger rotor) like the cbr kit is available for the
gts?
I know they make a baer kit but I wanted something less expensive.

Just was looking into this.... the front brakes can be upgraded to dual piston 11" 1.25 discs from a 98+ 2wd blazer or jimmy. I'm looking at it right now for $380 shipped on ebay.

uh 98 and up 2wd blazer jimmy:roll:

When I looked up 98 2wd Blazer calipers it came up with single piston ones. I'll go back and search again.

Re: sonoma gt brakes

It is a bolt-on spindle replacement. The GT spindles will not accept the larger calipers / rotors without mods.

Thats what I thought. I need to redo my brakes all over...may call some junkyards.

Re: sonoma gt brakes

the thing is I already have drop spindles and the blaser front

brakes need the blazer spindle. Also they are 11" diameter rotors and I was hoping
for something bigger since I have 19" wheels.

I know that baer makes a set of 13" but I heard that they stick out 1/2 inch on each side.
My wheels are tucking now and I have no more room in the wheel well (sp).
My wheels are very expensive too so I won't be having more made.

Also I heard (again for s-series forum) that baer doesn't make a kit that fits the back of a
2wd. Is this true? I thought it was the same as my Typhoon? this would make
the rear brakes look stupid to me if they were different.

Re: sonoma gt brakes

Aside from being a different width, the housings are the same IIRC. The LS1 brakes should fit fine on the rear. You could just get drop spindles for the later blazer (98+) and then install the dual pistons and such on there. The other option is using a drop spindle for a B-Body car with a tubular upper arm (read this on the s10v8 and blazinlow forums). You can do that with either a 12" disc (like this : http://gparts.freeyellow.com/12brakekit.html) or with C5 rotors (13") like they talk about in this thread http://www.blazinlow.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=50493&highlight=fbody+spindles\
FWIW .... the C5 parts are still going to be fairly costly, but I would imagine less than the Baer stuff

Thanks- Thats great information. My truck has had extensive work on the suspension so I
hope the tubular upper arms will work. I'm going to try that route. The 13" would
be perfect.

There is a guy on SSF names Ed Miller that is making brackets for the 2wd trucks, he has a kit to install C5 13' brakes onto both the stock spindle and the 2100 drop spindle and also the 98+ stock and dropped spindle, basically you buy the caliper adaptor brackets and hubs for around 200 bucks and then supply your own C5 rotors and calipers, he also has a kit for the 12" f-body disk on a stock opr dropped spindle, and i believe he recently got the Z51 13.5" and ZO6 14" rotors to work with either the LS1 f-body or a C5 or C6 dual piston caliper. And i know he is working on getting the 12" f-body disk to fit the 98+ stock and dropped spindle, but there isnt much room because they are not that much bigger than the stock brakes.

For those 19" wheels, id go with the Z51 or even the ZO6 brakes and do the LS1 12" rear disk swap thats a direct bolt on. Probably best bang for the buck as far as brakes go. Much better than Bear, which uses C4 13" HD brakes, which are the same as 94-98 Cobra.
