Speed Bleeders

I dont know if you guys use speed bleeders ( Bleeder with check valve built in) But they are great. Including installing the new valves doing one tire at a time I was able to flush out my brake system pushing through 2 Litres of new fluid in 15 min on my own.

Re: Speed Bleeders

I have heard of these but never tried them. I'm interested in hearing more...?? I've spent many hours bleeding brakes on my Sy so this sounds like a time saver. How do they work and what is the part number?

Re: Speed Bleeders

I've had them in my truck for over 5 years and it makes bleeding brakes simple. The design is pretty straightforward.....a spring-loaded "plunger" allows fluid to go out the bleeder one way, but prevents air from returning in the opposite way. Simple but effective.

I'll see if I can locate the PN today.

made by russell (Edelbrock)

PN # 639580 fronts
PN # 639520 Rears

They dont look much different than a regular bleeder. Just crack then open as usual and pump away. no need to close them with the pedal deppressed. be carefull, you can go through fluid quite fast. I paid $9 Cnd for a pack of 2.

Re: Speed Bleeders

I've got a hose-attached gadget that works the same way. Only thing you have to be careful of is the hose seal on the bleeders.

The self contained ones would be better, I think.

I wonder how these would work for getting the air out of the ABS...

Re: Speed Bleeders

So do you leave them in after you've bled the brakes or do you need to replace the old screws?

Re: Speed Bleeders

You leave them in. When you are done your torque them down, which seals them. I have a set of these on my Subaru which sucked because there is 8 bleeders, but it sucked worse bleeding all 8 the old fashioned way.

Re: Speed Bleeders

I guess my C5 calipers are different from the stock size front screws? Anyone?

Cool - it's the rears that are the problem anyway.

Re: Speed Bleeders

I love the Speed Bleeders. You can also find them in the "Help!" section in parts stores. They should be able to look up the correct size for the regular bleeder screw and then you just find that sixe Speed Bleeder. They also should work in the ABS module. Finding the correct size might be the hard part for that though. I have one on my Talon's clutch as well. They are really great for flushing the fluid through since the built in check valve allows you to pump fluid out, but doesn't allow the air back in.

Re: Speed Bleeders

for this side of the pond tire rack sells ATE brake fluid in blue and yellow. Since it is made in Europe it is also available ther in blue and yellow, blue is technickly not legal in the US , about $ 10 a pint, one of the better fluids.
