Re: Speedhut gauges today

Hey i just bought some of those myself, i go tthe reverse indiglow with white faces and they light up red at night, i also got the Typhoon logo and truck number put on them as well. I should take some pics and post them up.

They went in failry easy, except that on the guage panel with the gas, oil nd water and temp they didnt make the holes for the stop pins, so i had to do that myself to reinstall them. i figure they are there for a reason, so i kept them.

i thought speedhut only made the gauges that glow blue or green, thats why i never bought them. how dark is the red? if it looks pink, i'll pass... i have the NR Auto gauges in my syclone and i like em... they were a lil expensive, but theyre nice. i didnt mind removing the needles, it's not that difficult; plus they needed to be repainted anyway... the orange was fading bad.

I might consider the speedhut gauges this time around... but i'd like to see pics first.

Re: Speedhut gauges today

I don't think the stop pins actually do anything, wasn't really planning on putting them back (but depends on how many there are)

Re: Speedhut gauges today

uhhhh i would recommend putting the stop pins in and even adding one on top of the oil psi gauge... they like to do the "loop de loop" trick. personally i dont enjoy taking the dash apart just to fix a needle...

Re: Speedhut gauges today

Ok, heres some pics of mine they are alittle blury, but you get the idea.

Im happy with them, and they are red as can be not pink. I just wish i had took the time to remove and redo the needles while i had it apart.

this is very true... where can I get another pin? That, and what do they attach to under the face?

Re: Speedhut gauges today

well thjey are actually a two piece deal, kinda like some of the other fasteners GM uses, the center piece will pull up and then you can pull the whole thing out, once you have one removed you will see what im talking about.

Id also like to know if somebody has any idea where to get some more, i had trouble getting a couple back in and they kinday got messed up, plus id like to add one at the top of the oil guage, but you will have to drill a small hole in the clear plastic under the factory black face.

Re: Speedhut gauges today

Tooky offered a pretty cheap easy fix to this... i believe he took a small nail, heated it up and pushed it through, then cut it down to match the size and colored it with a sharpie. probably not the most professional approach, but i dig it.

knowing the dealer, if they were to even sell the part i bet it would be around $6.

Mike, i like the look of those gauges! those fit over the stockers? i think when i have the dash apart im seriously going to look for some brighter bulbs to go behind the cluster... i know this was discussed in a previous topic, but damn the odometer/trip odometer are impossible to read at night!

also later if you have spare time and want to redo your needles... here's what i did.

all thats on the needles is like an orange reflective paint... i just scraped it off with an X-acto knife and repainted them with red model paint (note*** only repaint where the orange paint was... excess paint on the sides/top will make the needle not show up at night).

they arent as bright as stock, so maybe this time i'll see if i can find a red reflective paint.

good luck!

Re: Speedhut gauges today

Yeah mine slip right over the stockers and bolt down using the orignal screws, and i never took the needles off. To make the holes for the stop pins in the face that didnt have any i used an ice pic to poke the hole then a small phillips screwdriver the same diameter as the hole to kinda ream it out and then some needle nose pliers to put the stop pin back in, they were kinda tough to put back in but i eventually got them in.

i will be taking ine back apart soon as my speedo needles seems to hange up and is stickly now, guess i should have used some of that 2 sided tape they give you in the kit.

How much do those cost? I have some white face ones but I think I'm gonna get that instead.

The only pins you need to put on are for the speedo and the tach.
If the oil pressure does a "loop de loop" trick it will go back to normal position anyway with out any pins in it.
I have been driving it like that for 30k miles.

Re: Speedhut gauges today

No stop pins for me either.
Just the speedo and tach.

No problems to date.
Gotta love the Speedhuts!

Re: Speedhut gauges today

I think I'm going to go pin free... I hate the pins look.... while I have it apart I'm going to see if they can be done internally

While you have time to burn see if you can:
1. fix the voltage gauge oscillation with the turn indicator blinking
2. the low temperature reading
3. low coolant light not working
