sport truck shootout!

V8 Sonoma GT

Mile High SyTy
Re: sport truck shootout!

IMHO it would take some serious builds to compete in Heads Up Class based on the rules below:
Trucks must be real lightnings/454ss/Dakota rt/syclones/srt10s
50.00 entry Bracket class(trophy 1 2 3)
Will be ran on a sportsman tree and foot brake only no electronics.
25.00 entry Tow vehicle(trophy 1 2 3)
sportsman/bracket(must be the truck used to tow truck to track)
75.00 entry True street class ( trophy 1 2 3)Payout will depend on how many in class.
All trucks will take a 30 mile cruise then go directly to the starting line to run 3 back to back runs with the lowest 3 run average the winner.
All trucks must have full interior, lights, wipers, exhaust no open headers etc... And will also have to have current proof of insurance and up to date tags.
Must run DOT tires of any size and fit under the bed
Foot brake only
Stock type suspension front and rear(no back halfs)
Full glass except for rear.
Fiber glass bumpers, hoods only.
The only thing after cruise that can be changed is tire pressure, hood stays down and no fuel can be added.
100.00 entry Heads up( 1st 1000.00 2nd 500.00 3 150.00)
Run what ya bring and hope you have enough.

Something in the order of Daddy Daves Sonoma http://on.aol.com/video/street-outlaws--under-the-hood--daddy-dave-518072601

Not saying in an 1/8th mile an AWD 1000+ Syclone would't do good (John Frey competes against 8 sec entries in Colorado Street Outlaws and is number 3 out of 10) but your average SyTy might not be enough with 800 - 900 hp.

But I might be wrong....(it doesn't say whether everything is 1/8th mile) but trucks with 4 links might not be allowed in the bracket or true street class either.

yea bully could clean up true street...but thats a long ways from us in KY lol...

when you gonna run that ty in street outlaws? you need a driver (im volunteering) ?

Re: sport truck shootout!

We didnt want to open it to all trucks just limited edition sport trucks.

Side note dont know why people put LS engines in there sy/ty seems to me it takes away from what the truck is.
But its not my business so dont get mad at me.
Hope some of you guys can make it.

Same reason any body puts any modification to any vehicle. Lots of reasons.

I put a v8 in my ty on a dare from some friends, and will be following that with an LS due to I ended up having a spare ls laying around and the v8 needed some extensive internal work.

At this point though going fast isn't my main concern.

damn no 2 steps? So does no electronics mean ignition systems or just launch control devices etc?

John (aka Bully Syclone) has the perfect truck for these kind of challenges (awd, TT, nitrous, etc)
with a longer wheelbase and less weight than a Typhoon. At 1/8 mile he probably isnt fighting the aerodynamics (being a brick) either :p.
I don't know the status of other builds to offer an opinion about their availability (but it would be cool to support a fellow SyTy'er).

Been asked several times to "participate" in some racing events like the one mentioned, but we've always declined, wanting to stay stealthy/underground and off folk's radar.
Even had offers to sell it (after a pretty successful night) to some well known California dudes but said "no". Kinda flattering and embarrassing
(since I really like being in the shadows and prefer not to talk much).

...its actually a lot faster than I thought possible (but that's another story) ;)
Thanks again for the kind remarks!

======================================================================

Reprinted from earlier an thread: 5 Reasons for LS SWAP:

  1. These trucks have not reached universal status (even though rare and limited in production) where "collectors" are willing to pay big money. Their not a Yenko, a COPO, a Tri Power 67 Vette, a true ZL1, an AC Shelby Cobra, a Thunderbolt, or a 426 Mopar Superbird (yet). By the time these trucks reach these heights, most of us probably will be dead and wont care.
  2. Most of the engine swapped trucks were probably broke anyway (or the parts to make them run were so costly/scarce to make the swap feasible). It's not like "deflowering" a 100% virgin truck. They detonate and blow up, They eat bearings from detonation, melt pistons, loose compression. The LB4 cylinder heads suck. They don't flow on top and the cam is small.Boost launch a SyTy multiple times in a row and trash the transmission. Your front propshaft will break if you launch enough with traction. Stuff breaks all the time. The abs sucks. The motor mounts break. The fuel pump is weak even for a stocker. The intercooler system is overtaxed when your out for continuous "spirited" driving. The ignition is weak. The intercooler lines run over hot places and their difficult to tune. Even GM "gave up" after 1 year with the Syclone, and 2 years with the Typhoon due to low sale numbers/warranted costs.
  3. Retro-Modding with LS Components not only decreases the front end weight; increases the power to weight ratio; allows the use of newer technology (ECM, Individual Coils, Dry Sumping, Composite Intakes, Newer Power Adders) but opens up more vendors/supplies for easier, quicker purchases/repairs. No one wants to offer limited oem parts to a dying market segment (not even GM). So a site like this unique because the community (and not vendors) offer support, parts, advice, and maintenance tips to the few who continue to own these trucks.
  4. Reliability: LS Motors are plentiful, well understood, and can withstand nitrous, turbo or supercharging bolt ons for large hp/torque gains by shops that have no knowlege about Sy/Tys. Whether its cooling. electronics, fuel, or exhaust related, these trucks can be improved via component swaps.
  5. And lastly, only a handful of people truly know, understand, or are acquainted with the factory components of a Sy/Ty anyway (such as awd, v6, intercooling, turbocharging) making it easy to attend car shows with an LS Engine and still draw onlookers who only know the vehicle due to its unique stance, cladding, seldom seen numbers. If done properly (and not butchered), retaining a/c, ps, pb, pw, cruise, leather seats (etc) is entirely possible. And ultimately cheaper, than purchasing a new corvette, gtr, shelby gt500, or hellcat (still making Syclones/Typhoons the reining king at stop lights -even during these factory hp/performance wars).
The facial expression of having beat a newer, high performance vehicle that costs more from a yuppie-owner is priceless; but to do it with a truck (and take their money) is as good as great sex!

Re: sport truck shootout!

i think it because you only had one objective when you came on here though, from my perspective is why it looks this way, just my observation, i think the shootout is cool just not practical for most of us during these months in the crappy northern midwest.
