SRT8 Cherokee Dusted

My ass. Look at it.
Had my first street race in a LONG time last night, not to mention the first with my new tranny. Some dude in a SRT8-GC pulls beside with a big grin and thumbs up  , BS'd a bit about the Ty/Jeep and managed to catch a light :D

Not a problem in the least, had him in my mirror the whole time :D . They can definitely launch though! Really cool guy, I was impressed that he knew what the Ty was (turbo, AWD, etc.) Only mod he had was a CAI.

Man those Jeeps sound nasty! I told the guy if I had an extra $45k laying around Id have one too :p

My mods are in my sig, plus my "new" built 700 w/ BH 9/11 2800 TC.

Nice kill brudda!! Everyone knows the SRT8 doesn't stand a chance against our 15 year old lunch boxes. Ive had to lay the smack down myself on them a few times.

Stock for stock it is a drivers race against a typhoon. To say they "don't stand a chance" is ridiculous.

Why? Most people who would be drawn to buy a SRTGC would be the MOST likely people on the road to know what a Typhoon is (aside from the turbo Regal crowd). People who like fast SUV's are a rare breed and most know the history. Heck, even Car and Driver magazine traces the origins of ALL the fast SUV's they test to the Typhoon.

Nice kill. I like the look and the interior is much more upscale IMO than the TBSS. I'd still have a hard time buying one over the TBSS, as the GM LS platform of performance enhancers is way better then the SRT8.

Maybe if they were alittle closer in price.

Re: SRT8 Cherokee Dusted

The TBSS is an ugly pig :) IF gm put the LS platform in an AWD Equinox (much better looking IMO), they would have one serious car, and much more Ty-ish

Ever since the SRT8-GC came out Ive wanted to race one, reason being is that my truck is damn near stock. It seems a *great* running stock Ty can still hold its own (and then some) against the SRT8-GC. I have a feeling that a race at the drag strip, w/slicks, the Cherokee would be some serious competition. :p

Congrats on a great kill!

I halfass raced one going around a double left at an intersection a few weeks back. By the time our turn straightened out and I could hammer on it, he was a half truck in front and stayed there. Granted it was a "race" of about a block before we came up on traffic. As brief as it was, I learned that if I don't get a great launch, there is no way in hell my 13.5sec truck will beat a stock SRT8-GC.

I came across the SAME damn SRT8-GC last night.. or rather he came across me sitting at a light. The timing could not have been worse. As soon as I knew what it was, the light turned green and he was rolling past me (sitting there with 16in Hg vacuum) at which point he got on it. I didn't even bother.

Not to attract the wrath of fellow SyTyers, but if you beat even a stock one, your truck must run STRONG.

Check out the times for stockers posted on DragTimes:

They range from 12.95 to 13.2 with 1.7 to 1.8 sec short times. SRT-8GCs do not need slicks at the track any more than SyTys do.

Thanks! ...gives me more confidence in my truck! :p . That 13.7 I ran was in 2004, and was my first time racing at a dragstrip, EVER :) . #0231 Definitely runs muy bueno these days  .

I got to drive an 07' GCSRT8 for the day and its a fun truck. The stats say its quicker, but the driver makes the difference especially from a launch, on the highway forget about it.

I asked the owner if he wanted to race my Typhoon, but he said no since mine has a bigger hairdrier on it, hehe.

Re: SRT8 Cherokee Dusted

The SRT8 is a very quick truck and would likely beat my stockish Sy. The Jeep launches better. It's basically and floor it event compared to the Sy launch technique...too many nannies on the Jeep...any power braking screws it up. On the highway its all over for a sy or ty, the Jeep just pulls hard up there. Now, I totally understand it's 17 years of technology so it goes to show how far ahead of the curve our beloved trucks were back then.

TBSS is a POS btw...have you seen the interior? Ugly! Yes they have more go fast parts but that'll change...plus they need them :) The SRT8 is a far better package overall and is justified in asking more.....wheels, tires, suspension, exhaust, seats, brembos, body components....and so on.....TBSS is still grandmas truck with a big motor

You know for the 20-30 of them I have been around I have never taken it upon myself to look inside  However, I will say I felt the same way when I jumped in the SRT8 and drove it. I was very uncomfortable. Too much crap everywhere too. But then I am a simple man I guess. When I test drove the FX35 I almost started screaming when the seat started moving by itself, scared the hell out of me because it was drawing me closer to the wheel. I guess cars now a days remember where the seat was last time it was driven. Thats just pure laziness
