Hello all, this would be my first post and i hope there are many to come. I'm purchasing a typhoon hopefully at the end of this month and am considering purchasing the McCoy Motorsports Stage 4 upgrade kit. My question would be is this kit worth it? Are these parts good quality? What would i need to get for this kit to work? thanks for the help. Link: http://www.tobefast.com/sytyatr4.htm

A few words for you, what are your goals? what kind of acceleration (expressed in seconds), what type of trap speeds do you want, and most important, what purpose do you want your vehicle for. stirctly drag racing with horrible street use. or full street vehicle with good mileage and fast ass acceleration. you decide, look in the archives for other peoples mistakes and regrets, then repost or just update this one.

well, i gave it a few weeks of reading up on different sites and forum posts, just about every one on the net by now i'm sure but you can never be educated enough right?!? From the beginning my goals have always been a solid 12's truck if not less, keeping it streetable enough to be a daily driver. I'm still considering the kit linked above with other things included such as an adjustable fuel pressure reg, boost and other guages, maybe a 180 therm., high stall torque converter (not sure if the chip included in the kit would effect this), turbo timer, and maybe headers. I was wondering if anyone could give advice on if these are the right items to purchase, or would there be better things to produce more power? heads?

First off McCoy is the shop of choice from mild to wild IMO so you're on the right track there, question for you. Why don't you see how fast you can go with just a few basic mods, get a Scantool, replace everything ignition related, read BG's (Smeagol Green) various posts about which plugs tend to work best in each application, look at the Ultimate Chip, maybe a nice free flowing intake and exhaust. Keep it simple at first and sneak up on things, don't start running higher boost levels until you know what is going on, no point in doing damage now leave that for later  Seriously take it from somebody who has learned the hard way, set your goals first which it sounds like you have, figure out your budget, then add to your budget as something is likely to break, and start making some passes and see where you stand first then start to think ahead and plan. There are a number of SY's well into the 12's with a stock motor and stock turbo, it will be tougher with a TY but it isn't impossible and if you have a good running truck to start with your money will go a lot farther. Then I'd say look at a Turbo Kit like PTE's with a properly matched Torque Convertor and you can have a low 12 second truck that you could drive every day if you wanted to. Try and follow the known combinations so you don't end up with mismatched parts and crappy performance. Remember its about the tuning, tuning, tuning...take advantage of the Ultimate chip it is a great place to start. Good Luck. Ryan
