So my insurance agent was just explaining to me that I have full coverage on my..
04 Silverado, 94 GMC S15 Jimmy, & 92 GMC S15 Jimmy and custom insurance on my 85 GMC S15 Jimmy. I said, "by the way, what do you show my 1992 GMC is?"
She said , "A 92 GMC S15 Jimmy."

So I tried and tried and could not explain for the life of me they it was a Typhoon. She wasexplaining i will need custom car value appraised insurance or something. Anyway, they cant find a Typhoon option.

How do I get my insurance to cover my Typhoon????

I work for state farm and you should have it. My truck is listed as a Sonoma but there is a rating group they go by that tells them the truck's worth. It should be a number on your policy called IRG. If you can find that, let me know what it is and I can tell you if it's rated as a Ty.

*edit* I have a close family friend that is an agent in Southlake which is just outside of Dallas. I can check it out tomorrow for you if you like. I would check now but they are closed.

Exactly how mine is covered, plus I provided my agent with paperwork and proof that it is a "syclone" and a limited production truck. I also have a signed letter from state farm noting they realize it is a sonoma syclone, and not a sonoma s15.

Is that from your insurance card or from the policy itself? There should be a number listed called IRG. That's the number I need to tell you if it's listed as a Ty or not. Based on the premium though, i'd say it's not rated as a Ty but rates in Texas are probably cheaper than they are here.

It seems cheap and I have searched through my file and dont see anything that says IRG.

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

Okay yeah it's not rated as a Typhoon. Texas doesn't have Typhoons listed in there system but they do here in California. Pretty weird. They will need a stated value to insure it for. Right now it's just insured as a 4wd 2-door.

This is info straight from our agent friend. You should be able to just give them the value you want it insured for and they will adjust the premium accordingly. They will need pics and stuff though.

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

I got my Ty insured through Allstate. They had it listed after I gave them my VIN. The only odd thing is that its only costing me $34 a month for full coverage. I doubled checked to make sure they didn't list it as a Jimmy and they said It was covered as a Typhoon.

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

The only company here in NH that will actually insure my truck as a Typhoon (or at all now  ) is USAA

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

I have State Farm, and they originally had my Sy listed as a Sonoma! When I queried them about it they said they would look into it. Turns out they had my Sy listed as an IRG of 12 - Sy's are supposed to have an IRG rating of 19. So, they bumped it up to a 19, but of course that made the insurance go up. Since we are a little older we had my wife listed as the primary driver, which she sometime is (if she gets lucky!). This dropped the premium by 1/4.
When I asked what they would do concerning the replacement value if the truck was totaled by another motorist, they simply suggested that I take lots of pictures of it and document the exact condition. My Sy has had a frame-off restoration done to it, so they were looking for pics of the build, etc. Having said that, they still wouldn't commit to what would happen if it was totaled.
Hope this helps.

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

Get a stated value policy. Then there's no guessing how much money they'll give you when it gets destroyed. If you want to insure your car properly, you're going to pay for it.

I have State Farm and have an agreed value policy of 16k and it cost me less than 200 a year with my other 3 vehicles

Start farm does not do Agreed value they will do stated value and thats worthless, because it allows them to degrade the vehicle. Grundy and haggerty will insure there trucks as collector vehicles with agreed value policies but they cannot be daily drivers and you must have a garage

Ie you state its worth 10,000 you total it and they degrade or adjust the Actuall cash value to 6000 because of condition, On a agreed value policy before any money changes hads you and tyhe insurance company agree to a settlement amount in the event of a loss. This is the best way because in the eyes of a standard insurance company these are 15 year old used vehicles and they will treet them as such. I have a agreed value policy with haggerty on my truck for a good amount and its cheaper then all the standard insurance companys. A apprasial isnt worth beans with a insurance company because 99.9999999999999 of all apprasiars arent certified by that insurance companies

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

State Farm will do agreed value, but it is still called stated value for us. There has to be a certified appraisal to substantiate the insured amount. Sometimes we will even let the average of what's being sold in the auto traders slide. We have many insureds who have their cars insured this way and have been paid the full amount insured for in the event of a total. There is also the collectors and classic vehicle policy we have that is mentioned above and it cuts the rate in half, but the vehicle absolutely has to be appraised and can only be driven to shows and the like. I think the max mileage for the year is only 2,000.

Re: State Farm Insurance Issues...

I just got mine all set up with State Farm. It was quite a chore actually. They took a bunch of pictures of the truck and sent them into tier big office and i told them about the truck and that i think its worth $12k to replace. So now I have $12,000 insurance on my Typhoon. If anything ever happens they will cover $12k. I had to do a seperate policy and it is listed as classic car insurance, therefore I only pay $190 every 6 months. The catch is that I keep it in my garage and rarely ever drive it. Thats ok cause I will and I dont.
