Stock downpipe flange

Does anyone know where I can pick one up? I plan on making a 3" downpipe setup w/ a 38mm wastegate setup.

Thanks!

Re: Stock downpipe flange

how does the dp flange or even dp flange need to be setup for a external WG?

external will need to go before the turbo.

Re: Stock downpipe flange

Isn't it possible to remove the puck and run it off there? Doesn't seem that hard at all....

Re: Stock downpipe flange

Nope, won't work that way....

You need to redirect flow around the turbo, the puck will be post turbo. So an external has to be mounted PRE turbo, most of the time its done on the crossover.

You'd have to pull the plug, remove the arm and flapper, plug the hole for the arm, machine the hole the flapper covered to take a section of pipe, weld that pipe into the housing to seal it, and finally, build a mounting flange to mount the external.

Doesn't sound easy or cheap to me.

Much easier - remove the crossover, weld a flange on it, mount the External WG there.
Spot weld the WG flapper arm on the housing shut.

Issue with the stock flange and 3" pipe becomes clearance around the bolt holes. You can use stainless allen cap screws instead of the studs to alleviate this.

Many people are surprised to find that bolting a 3" pipe instead of the 2.5" pipe doesn't gain you much.
The real gains come in the freeing up of the exhaust side of the housing, and getting rid of a WG flow path that exits perpendicular to the flow coming out of the turbine.

Re: Stock downpipe flange

The crossover isn't the best place to run a WG off of either. One bank of the engine would be breathing easier than the other. External gate off of a stock turbo setup on a Syty would be difficult as was mentioned above, the wastegate path is sorta within the turbine housing itself, hard to describe until you see it yourself. It could be done, but I feel better gains would be found using a spacer of sort between the turbo and manifold, mounting a gate (or 2 if staying divided) and remake the downpipe to fit. That's my plan, anyways.

I know exaclty what you're trying to accomplish, similar to the FP series of turbos and the green/red. Interesting off topic: Green has the same turbine wheel as the stock Ty, and a red is a TD06H, same as the typical 20G upgrade. The super 20G that Hahn used to sell is a Syty turbine housing'ed (10cm) 20G, off the shelf. The green really has me thinking as it'll just slap into a stock ty housing...

FYI, I'm an ex-dsm'er or MANY years, 15 or so :)

Re: Stock downpipe flange

I was thinking of building something similar to this with a spare exhaust housing that I have, not even possible I'm assuming?

Re: Stock downpipe flange

It's possible, but more work than you would expect due to the weird wastegate setup. On the DSM O2 housings the wastegate gases are routed back into the exhaust main stream in the housing, On a Syty, they are routed back in inside of the turbine housing themselves. You would need to block off the internal passage with a pipe, weld that to the cast iron (a bitch, to be honest) and then go about making the piece that you have shown above.

Best advice I can give is to actually look at the housing then decide if it's worth the effort. I personally feel that it isn't for the gains that you'd be after.

I just want to utilize a little higher flowing exhaust and hopefully find some sort of better wastegate management. The car over boosts a little right now (somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-16lbs max) but I'm going to tune it for that with Code59 :)

Re: Stock downpipe flange

On occasion I make a 3" dp for the stock turbo. It includes an oval flange so that the puck and everything between the puck and outlet can be removed. This works extremely well.

Another thing people forget is the stock system includes the program in the ECM, if you change mufflers, remove a cat etc you have changed the system and the ECM setting just may need to be changed also. Code59 will help you get into those settings but by itself won't fix your problem.

At nats Dig and I have a section planned on boost tuning also.

How much would you charge to make an oval flange setup just enough to where I can weld up my own downpipe? Thanks :)

Re: Stock downpipe flange

so you can make a 3" downpipe from the stock turbo into my soon to be atr 3" cat back exhaust?

Re: Stock downpipe flange

Yes, look at the for sale section, taking names as I get time. Been busy but I have enough flanges for 20 dp's.

Re: Stock downpipe flange

I'd just like the flange and cool ass logo and one single o2 bung.

If you're looking for a stock style 3-bolt flange for the downpipe, I've got one...
