i am putting on an a/a intercooler and need to reclock my turbo.I Know you can buy a bracket to fix the wastegate problem by if i buy one it wont get here for a while because of snow and chrismtas problems. Is ther another way to set up a fmic with the stock turbo without needing a bracket?

Re: stock turbo and a/a

do you mean set up the fmic with the cold outlet facing up? if so, just put a mandrel bent U bend and face it where you want.

or am i not understanding the question?

or do you mean make the fmic piping without the bracket coming in first?

your only choice is to make/buy a bracket to remount the wg actuator or install an external wastegate.

check with mike renz.. he makes or made some.

if you need to drive the truck in the meantime, just remove the actuator and let the flapper just flap. it wont make any boost though..

Yea i just did mine and tried getting ahold of Mike Renz on the board that made them at one point and never heard back from him. Just make it pretty simple.

Re: stock turbo and a/a

You can still set it up without the bracket. Renz is the one to talk to about getting one. Its just not going to work. You need to remove the wastegate rod and actuator. This will allow you to clock the turbo unitl you get the Renz bracket.

The other option is go external wastegate. Remove the rod and actuator like before but then weld the wastegate puck shut. Then rig up an external wastegate on the crossover tube.

Or you can do the wastegate like this but that requires the flange used and more welding.

You could use the stock turbo with this setup but you need to remove the wastegate flapper completely. Lots of work either way you do it. The last option is get a turbo that is not internally gated.

Check this link out for other good ideas. You really need to know your options and the work involved before to tackle this.

nice work for sure, but what do you expect as benefit of this modification, how moch do you think your IAT will decrease? or are there other positive effects, too?

I did mine becuase the air to water got heat soaked so badly. I also think the stock intercooelr is not the best deal for flow. Intake temps should stay about the same if you run is short spurts. The air to air will do better on recovery.

WIth Alky you can drop the intake temps down to ambient.

As for restriction, a good Air to Air should have a lower Psi drop vs the Stock Upper IC. I can't find the post (quick search), but I want to say some did some actual before IC pressure and found the stock IC to have a drop of 4-5 psi vs 2 PSI of an A2A.
