You're absolutely right. It's all in the way you look at it, and you are obviously bent way the hell out of shape about something.

IMO, you should step up or shut up.

But then again WTF do I know, I'm not even an owner :D

Man ,you just need to relax & get a Syclone injection. ;)
Now, I am sure you will be able to find one soon, if you want one. A syclone that is.

I can find them all over the place. I just don't particulary want to buy one. I have a ton of respect for the owners, and the local guys that deal with them. They make a ton of power, and are great street/strip trucks. I race Solo2, and want to move towards road course racing. This just isn't the platform to get me there. I just enjoy the company too much to leave.

Re: external wg

Necessity is the mother of Invention, and, as everybody knows, a skinny woman named Poverty is the mother of Necessity.

I may not be in poverty but I am frugal. Have too many cars/trucks to waste $ on.

It is amazing to see what others have done in stock turbo class but I will never see a 11 second pass using a stock turbo. My goal is a 12.5 before retiring the stock turbo. Best so far is only a 12.8.

The Sy is only three mods away from pure stock. 911 TC, ultimate chip and alcohol injection were added at no extra cost since they were used on other projects with the Ty. Probably would still have the original TC if the flexplate didn't crack. Still running original cat converter so I can pass emissions test.

Getting back to the problem: I have to fix the sticky wg. Assuming when I pull the turbo there is no other issues with it I can either:

1. Fix the integral wastegate. Never pulled a turbo apart. Wouldn't know what to do. Have a extra stock turbo for parts (ingested something) so maybe I can use the wastegate half?
2. Have someone else fix the wastegate. Could be too much downtime on Sy. Although I see that larger wastegate flappers can be installed which may help with boost control. Of course, I do not know if this would be allowed in stock turbo class (doubt anyone would know but I do not want to cheat).
3. Weld (or wire if I am too lazy to pull the turbo) the wg flapper closed and install a external wg that I already have. Only cost to me would be a couple of flanges and some 1.5" pipe. Even have a extra cross over pipe. Really not sure yet if it would pass emissions testing with this setup (think that if not under boost it should pass). Most likely would also use a electronic boost controller vs. the ultimate chip boost control (wonder if this would be permitted).

#3 would be my choice since I can do myself, downtime would be minimal and additional cost would be relatively minor. But if I am told that it would put me in another class at the Nationals, I would somehow fix the integral wastegate.

Who do I talk to about volunteering for the tech position at the Nats?

The gains (if any) from an external wastegate are minimal in terms of ET as measured on a 1/4 mile track in Kansas.

in my opinion the external wastegate should be let in per Nats Stock Turbo Class rules as poted above.

I agree the only advantage of a external over the stock wastegate is better boost control. I have read with tinkering and tuning effort it is possible to get the stock internal to have pretty good boost control as well.

That'd be the quickest... pull the turbo, remove the v-band and pull the exhaust housing.
Put the new one on.

You can fix the sticky arm without taking the turbo off-

Pull battery cable off.

Pull passenger fenderwell.

Pull downpipe off turbo. (Don't need to take it out, just get it off the studs)

Grind weld off face off WG arm with makita or die grinder. Just get it flush with the arm.

Take a chisel and mark the orientation of the flapper arm to the shaft.

Take a small punch (smaller than the shaft on the WG rod) and pound the shaft off the
arm and into the exhaust housing. Reach in through the DP hole and grab the flapper
and arm.

Take a drill bit and wallow out the sleeve where the shaft rides in. Don't get it too loose
such that it leaks a lot.

Blow all the shavings out as best you can.

Put the shaft/flapper back in, and put the arm back on, aligning the marks you made.
I've got some nickle-based lube that's used in refineries, good to 2000F. I spray that in
there beforehand.

Spot-weld the arm back on with a mig. Can do it with stick too, if you're careful.

Assemble the DP, fenderwell, and battery cable, and you're done.

I will grant that it's much easier to do it while the turbo is out. But it can be done.

2. Have someone else fix the wastegate. Could be too much downtime on Sy. Although I see that larger wastegate flappers can be installed which may help with boost control. Of course, I do not know if this would be allowed in stock turbo class (doubt anyone would know but I do not want to cheat).

Personally, I don't see a difference between the two. If a modded stock exhaust housing is legit, than an external WG shouldn't bug anyone.

Really, as long as the stock size wheels are used and the stock size compressor cover and turbine housing are used, that should be all that's required.

Nice to hear from you again. Thanks for the excellent detailed instructions. Will pull the turbo, check it out for any other damage and either fix the wastegate arm or replace the exhaust housing. The external will be saved for another day.

Its amazing that we cant have a topic about stock turbo and there isnt a arguement about "JEREMYS TRUCK!" his truck is impressive and a inspiration for all of us NO MONEY, LOW BUDGET RACERS. Why cant this be about Frank asking question and looking for answers from people with experience?

Most of you dont know me and thats fine but i do alot of reading on this forum instead of posting because thats how ive learn the most about my truck but God man (Its Just a Six) give it up. the issue is dead.

 You are funny,Hank? is that your name? :dunno:

Whatever, you got a sweet truck running 12.2 on the stock turbo,if in fact you actualy have done that.

FWIW I know what the prob is. It's just a six weighs 500 lbs and has a pitbull chip.
Check it out: http://www.syty.net/forums/member.php?&do=vehicledetails&userid=4913

So my advice is this Hank: Loose some weight and get a real chip. Don't hate.Don't correct your times for sea level.Put some alky in that aquamist tank.Turn up the boost and timing, then run your 11.

It can be done.

Now that ive stepped up why dont you step up and run your truck? all this talking you do and NO RACING. we need to stop all this keyboard talk and start running these trucks
