Stock Twin Turbos?

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

with the cash you'd spend on headers and fabrication, etc, it'd be like shooting yourself in the foot to put stock turbos on there ... :2cents:

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

or you could just use 2 passenger side turbo manifolds so no header fab is required. I have a few sitting around for whoever wants to try it

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

isnt that why most supras (example) that are TT swap to a single big (dinner platter size) turbo ? i heared that twin turbos make too much heat (both exhaust and under hood) not to mention the lag plus getting both of them to work togeather. if youre trying to get the air going into the engine as cold as possiable with 1 turbo just imagine all the extra heat 2 would cause ? what about the fuel requirements of having a TT setup ? what about timing ? would the computer get along with the TT setup ? im by no means an expert but thats some concerns off the top of my head. he** i dont even own a sy/ty....yet

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

The reason most high-power Supras switch to a single turbo is because they are sequential twins in stock form (a smaller turbo spools first, then a larger one). The smaller turbo becomes an air restriction when you push out that much power. On a TT SyTy, I would think you'd be running parallel turbos (on for each cylinder bank), both the same size. You wouldn't run into the issues that the Supras have, since each turbo operates on its own, instead of one spooling the other.

Well, it was just a thought. I want to upgrade to SOMETHING so bad its killing me. Problem # 1 is that my engine is still toast. Problem # 2 is Im finally getting my own place again andn will be somewhat broke for a while. On a lighter note, I am starting my business back up so I may end up rolling in the bucks again. Heres my main problem, all the shit talking that goes on around my town. Theres so much talk of DSM's, Stangs and what have you running in the 11's or 12's with a few thousand dumped into it. Its rfeally unmotivating. My girl drives a TSi and to know that she could supposedly easily out-do me is very troubling. Plus, I cant seem to get out of the low 14's at the track and high 13's on DM. At the track my truck always has some kind of problem. Anyway, Im done ranting.

Tune your $#it. With that truck, you should be running mid to low 13's up here. What does your truck weight with all of the $#it out of the engine bay?

im 99% sure surpa turbos are the same exact size. The second turbo is fed by the first one, but only after a valve is opened up when the computer senses the demand for it.

its not the same type of setups that most of us think of when it comes to sequential turbos

I havent weighed in since summer of 04. At the time the only things I had removed was the Cruise Control and some odds and ends left out during my first build. I weighed 4070 with me in it. I know one thing that holds me back is my ridiculous IATS. At the end of a run I am seeing 140-150*. Ive had two people leave thier trucks with me to do some repairs and was given permission to do runs on thier trucks. They had 100-120* tops at the end of the runs. I dont knwo what the hell Im doing wrong there but it is annoying. Last run I did I was also pretty rich.....1040mv. Im suspicious that I may have a bad injector. #6 Spark plug always looks different than the rest. I also plan on doing a 1/4 turn with my lash this time instead of 1/2 turn to see if that helps with my knock problem. We'll see I guess.

I'm was having the same problem last year with low ET's. With the stock turbo, I was running 17-18psi with "no knock", 1.8-60's, running a STG chip and my et's were in the high 13's low 14's.
My guess is with 16Sy16 (all of the $#it out of the engine bay)...

I'm hoping the outcome will be different this year...

Well, I knwo I dont have the topend I should have. My MPH is kinda low I think. My 60's are 1.8 as well. My MPH on my 14.3 run was like 94-5. It was about 75-80* out that day. I also didnt have my EBC dialed in well it would launch me with 15psi but wouldnt go over 11-12 for the rest of the run. Got that worked out though. Anyway, good luck to you man and if you figure anything out let me know.

Sequential means just one after the other. Both Supra turbos are the same size, I've held them both in my hands.

CAS did a project similar to this for Buicks using 2 stock turbos. Cost was cheap since their stock turbos are cheap.

I would try a big single and see how you like that. You would be suprised how much a big turbo opens up the top end. Once you do heads, cam, and turbo it really becomes a different truck at 60mph or 80mph+

Just my $.02

I stand corrected. Two turbos in sequence are still considered to be unneccesary complexity when dealing with heavily modded Supras though.

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

I wish the pic was still up in E's post from that link . Sequential turbos would look trick on a syty . On the supras , the turbos dont work simultaneously all the time so using there platform for comparison to a twin setup for us , isnt really apples to apples .
I like this design if I decide to ever go that route .

Re: Stock Twin Turbos?

The heat, fabrication costs and most of the problems related to this issues could be avoided if the instalation was the remote style like STS is using. There are plenty of headers and A2A double intake intercoolers with a single central outlet. I've given it some thought before and it could be possible. As far as electronics go i really dont have any idea what could be used, MS, FAST, Holley's Commander? Any ideas?
