stuck brake rotor and bleeder valve

Hi,

I did a search and couldn't find anything helpful.

Any tips on removing a rusted brake rotor? I've been using a rubber mallet and some penetrant, but have only been able to get one of them off.

How do I loosen the bleeder valve? It's stuck and if I try any harder, it will round off. I tried to find a socket in my set to fit it, but it seems like an in-between size.

Thanks,
Alex

PS - what's the little plastic thing on the floor of the cargo area in my Ty for?

Re: stuck brake rotor and bleeder valve

for the rotor - just keep up with the mallet...it'll give eventually.

for the bleeder valve - vice grips, plain and simple. that, or a flare wrench may do it.

For the rotor the mallet is a toy. Get a heavy hammer, 16oz, and hammer between the wheel studs, where the wheel gets bolted to. You have to hit it, dont be shy, just make sure that you dont nick a stud to the point where you cant get the nut back on. Itll come off in a snap. The bleeder you need a 6 point bleeder wrench, and I think its a 3/8". With these you have to shock it,. not constantly put pressure on it or it will round off. Put the wrench/socket on and give it a quick hit, could use the palm of your hand(not a good idea), or just use a hammer against the wrench. If it doesnt come out that way, your only other option is vise grips like was already mentioned. Fern

Thanks guys, I finally got it off. It took 48 hours of soaking in Liquid Wrench and pounding on it with a 1lb rubber mallet.

The bleeder valves loosened up after striking it with an impact driver and 10mm socket.
