Stumbling Syclone

Hey guys I'm new here. Just bought a Syclone from my aunt, that's been in here garage since 05. Bad thing is, they pulled it in and left it. So I replaced fuel pump sendin unit, fuel relay, filter, cap, plugs, wires, oil. And it's still not runnin right. It fires right up, but if you don't flutter the gas it usually dies, it will idle sometimes. I'm thinking maybe I've got a bad injector, I keep hearing a loud ticking, and it is an injector you can feel it click. I replaced vacc lines too.. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Stumbling Syclone

The stock injectors are noisy as hell, probably fine.

Like stated did you put in some fresh petrol?

Check for vacuum leaks?

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Yeah there was maybe a half gallon in there. Dumped it out and used a can of seafoam to clean out all the gunk. Tyen filled it up with fresh premium. It seems that one of the injectors is louder than the rest. I've been looking for a vacc leak and can't seem to find it, but that doesn't mean there isnt one.

Another thing when I put into gear, i can move it around. It barely wants to pull itself, gotta flutter the gas. If I go WOT, it will stumble really bad sometimes. Also it's weird because it will run really good, then it will run fine for a little bit, but then it's starts running like shit again. Also put a new Mallory coil on it. Summit sent me the wrong distributor rotor, so maybe that could be it? Thanks for the speedy replies guys, really makes me feel welcome here!!

Re: Stumbling Syclone

If I have a plug wire criss crossed could that do it? Could someone give me a diagramn on firing order and distributor cylinder location? This is first distributor engine I've ever had.

Yes, it will misfire and run rough, change the ignition control module also, its under the cap

Your aunt was into fast trucks regarding the idle just unplug
the IAC unit to see how the engine runs then switch off the engine
after the test and reconnect the plug it may reset the unit !!

P.S after the fuel pump replacement did you check the fuel rail pressure ???

Re: Stumbling Syclone

It's like 15 psi when I hit the key, haven't checked it while running, I
Gonna go out and wrench on it in a couple days to see of
I can figure anything out. Any brand recommendations on ICM?

H So I replaced fuel pump sendin unit,!!

It that the same thing as the fuel pump? Sounds to me like the pump is going bad.

btw, what truck number is it (last four digits of VIN, located behind windshield on driver's side) ?

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Sounds to me like you've got the firing order off. I would verify that first then check your ignition timing. Disconnect the brown wire (under the pass side dash by firewall) and verify the timing is at 0.

If the problem persists once you open the throttle then it isn't the IAC.

You need to deal with the fuel pressure before throwing more parts at it Test it when the condition is occurring (running). I am surprised it would start at 15psi. Test the gauge on another rig to verify it is relatively accurate if necessary.

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Yes 15lbs of fuel pressure is way to low. Do you have a adjustable fuel regulator? you need to correct that first.

Re: Stumbling Syclone

I was thinking 15 was very low too. I'll get the number when I go back but I'm thinking its 22something. FPR is just an autozone so its nonadjustable. Could a fuel line be clogged? Yes fuel pump was replaced with the sending unit, all new. So I got my firing order off the NA 4.3l, are they the same?

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Just got off the phone with autozone, new fuel pump assy will be here the 4th. I'm gonna have to get a couple buddies together to pull the bed again, glad I didn't bolt it back lol. I'll refer to the shop manual and check voltage and what not. Anything else I should look at? I found a firing order diagram from another post.

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Firing order is correct. Number is 2247. And other than that haven't figured out anything else.

Re: Stumbling Syclone

Oh and my gauge is accurate, tried on my uncles jeep. My FP was fluctuating between 15 and 20. That explains why it does of I'm not on the gas. What's the probability my FPR is bad? I bought one for a camaro I had and it ended running better with the old one, but the pump was dieng it in it.

Just my advice if you have a tire pressure air handpump
just connect it to the vacuum hose at the fuel pressure
regulator if the igintion switch is priming the fuel pump
just pump air at the handpump ans see if the fuel pressure raises
then the regulator is O.K if not your fuel is going back to
the tank so the fuel rail does not keep it at 35 -40 psi pressure !!
