Sub woofer power wire help!!!

:banghead: Hey all, I just bought 2 alpine 12 inch subs, 4 ohm bridging them down to 1 ohm, with a duel folded horn box, with a rockford fosgate T1001bd amp rated for 1603 amps rms at 1 ohm...anyways I have a problem...It all required OT? guage power and ground wire and I'm having difficulties figuring where to go through the firewall with that big of wiring at, or even where to drill a hole or something...it's frustrating me and so I'm asking for help now haha. any ideas? I was thinking maybe running it down the frame and up through the ground effects kit rear bumper and through a small hole where the hatch latches but I'm not sure if this will cause problems in the future...anyways...any ideas are appreciated. Thanks! :banghead:

Pass side fire wall Looking from the front, just left of ware the ecu harness comes threw. You can whack a big hole there it will pop threw under the heater core box on the inside.
BTY you will never make 1600watts with a stock 90 amp alternator. Rember you can only get out what you put in to the amp. The truck requires almost all of the alternators amperage to run the truck. Whats left over after that might be 30amps or so. At that rate your amp will run out of steam around 300-500 watts depending on if your headlight are on or not. Most people dont relize this. At home you plug your amp into the wall and the power company supplies as much juice as your willing to pay for! In a automobile your alternator (Generator) is what supplys power and it has its limits100amp,150amps,200amps depending on the alt. you have installed. You could hook a power wire up the size of sewer pipe and you will only be able to pull what the alt. can supply. Sometimes we install 2 or 3 alternators to power some high out put systems.
FYI - get the biggest alternator you can find, 300 amps if you want full potential from you 1600watt amp. There are expensive 700 bucks or so. Stinger makes on for the GMs. Powermaster makes a 200amp for 250$ but it realy on makes 200amps at max rpm. Its like 165 at idle.

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

be sure to put a gromet(spelling) in the hole if you cut one so that you do not chafe your power wire. also a circut breaker just in case. and treat the metal where you cut the hole so it does not rust.

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

you might have better luck running it under the truck, along the frame. then come up through the floor of the cargo area. i ran a 4ga power cable through the interior, and it was a bitch in some spots to hide it.

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

New idea as of 20 minutes ago...so I got looking at the firewall and know it will be a pain in the ass, and up behind the hatch will pinch the wiring, but if I run it under the truck along the frame on the pass. side until just behind the passenger seat, pull the carpet back and drill a hole there and put a gromet in, and run the wiring up and along the passenger side under the backseat armrest and pocket, back down and to the subs it should be hidden pretty well, i think...also putting in a big ass capacitor(??? spelling) so it should have sufficient power as well...I'm pretty sure it should work but would like some feedback on this idea. thanks everyone!

Another common misconception Capacitors dont make power they only can store power for short bursts to control aplifiers from clipping. (voltage spikes and dips) They will not solve your problem.

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

go get about 500 feet of telephone wire and over lay them about 40 times or so then twist all the ends together..........and use it.

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

amp that big on a stock alt. run your 0/1ga. back and wire in a yellow top and put in a yellow top up front.. it will help...run a groung 0/1ga. down from front batt. to frame and do the same at rear batt. then hook up your power and ground to rear batt. then to amp.. should make mad bass but in a box like that you need about 3 watts to make it rip..folded horns are fuc_in loud if done right

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

1 - Replace alt. 200 or better.

2 - upgrade all power supply wire to 0ga
alt 2 frame - alt 2 battery isolator - isolator 2 frame - isolator 2 front battery - front
battery 2 frame - isolator 2 rear battery - rear battery 2 frame - rear battery 2 cap -
cap 2 frame - cap 2 amp - amp 2 frame

3 - a 10 amp fuse on pos wire to each sub
cheaper to replace fuse than voicecoil

4 - sound damper to kill rattling

5 - turbo and engine and tranny upgrade to carry all that :rotf:

good luck and if its to loud or fast, your to old

 this is what i was doing when i read what you were doing

Re: Sub woofer power wire help!!!

I doubt coming thru the firewall with that big of wire will ever "look" right, too big to hide under our carpet, it will leave a hump, run it under the truck and come up as cloase to where you need it to terminate. Make sure to use gromets and wire loom for protection, i agree with the battery in the back and front, Kinetik makes real nice power cells for car audio, the small one is like having 100 1 far caps, i dont believe in fusing that big of power wire but i fused mine with 300amp fuses just in case, that big of wire can weld things together and start fires.
