Yeah Sport 8000's are slowly dwindling away. It's suxors cause it's the only tire that comes available in 225/50/15's and 245/50/15's, which is what I use on my other car. And they're awesome tires. I haven't really done too much with Sumitomo's, but from what I hear, they're probably about as good as Kumho's, which are a great tire for the price. But they're probably not gonna be nearly as good as some of the higher end tires.

Re: sumitomo's.....???????

i had htr-z's on ZR1's for about 1000 miles but i didnt like the rims because they are too big and pulled me all over the road. the tires seemed fine. i took a couple sharp turn and some take offs from lights and they held good. i also have them on my stock rims and i love them. they lasted for about to 2 years and 35000 miles and still going. they slip a little off the line when i launch hard on the street but i like leaving patchs with all wheel drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Sumitomo's on ZR1's on my '93 Typhoon. They seem like a great tire for the price and I haven't had any problems with them.

They have great traction in dry/wet conditions; even when boost launching.

They are also very quiet on the highway and they have a good looking tread on them. I would buy them again.

Re: sumitomo's.....???????

i wont buy them again.... not the greatest traction off the line.... but they do hold up really well in cornering condtions and have a pretty good resistance to hydroplane... suck in the snow though but that can actually wind up bein pretty fun :) im gonna try a different tire next time though for the off the line traction cuase it sucks when your spinning zr1 size tires on an awd vehicle

for the price they're a very good tire. i know people who have had them on sy's and ty's and they have no complaints. i had yokohama's on zr1's and HATED them. all over the road. go with the sumi's. think you'll like them

I think any brand tire in ZR1 sizes will suck in the snow.

Heck my stock rims/tires sucked in snow. SyTy is just not a good snow vehicle IMO. Sure you can drive in it, just try to stop and you become a passenger in a big sled along for the ride.

I doubt you'll ever get great traction with ZR1 size tires on a SyTy, the thin 17" sidewall is too short to hook very well. Stock 16x8" rims have more sidewall and have proven much better success on the dragstrip 60' times and the tires cost less, to boot.

In drag racing, it's no secret that the taller the sidewall, the better the hook. You almost can't get a drag wheel in anything bigger than 15", there's a reason for that.

Re: sumitomo's.....???????

I have them on my sy and love them. Anyone that cant get the same or better 60' with these need to go back and do some tunning. I went from 1.72 on average with the cobras on stock rims to 1.68 on average with the sumitomo's. So the traction is there you just gotta find it.

Re: sumitomo's.....???????

thanks alot everybody for the info! appreciate it very much. i have bfg drag radials on my stock rims, so the drag strip won't be a factor. pretty sure i'm gonna buy a set today from tire rack, thanx again for replying!
