switching to 3-bar

i replaced the 2bar on my ty with a 3bar, and then she had problems... when ii started her up, was ok untill the idle lowered from the cold start, it bogged down to 300-400rpm, sometimes holds it but dies often also. if i give some throttle, she revs up but then boggs down again unless i pump the throttle. when i got her driving, boost went up to 18 and was getting knock(i think, never heard it before so i assumed). and when just cruising at hwy speed, she randomly lost power(seemed like spark or fuel was gone...) the check engine light came on. then in about 10-15 sec later, it got goin again and the check engine light went off...

so today i put the 2-bar back in and everything weird went away.

is there something i need to do to run the 3bar?

Re: switching to 3-bar

im pretty sure you need to have either a chip or be able to tune your truck so u can change it to 3 bar.

Re: switching to 3-bar

you cant run a 3-bar w/o a re-programmed chip, whether it be an ultimate, phill long, waller, $59 or whatever, you reaally should do a lot more research before you blow up your truck...

Re: switching to 3-bar

what exactly do you mean ....just tuning?

your .bin must be modified to run a 3-bar MAP

I was going to wait for at least one more dumb question...

but yea, you should put the 2-bar back in, drive it till it breaks (which it will) then while you save your cash, search and search and search

i wasnt sure if the chip was required or if you could make all the adjustments through datamaster/tunerpro

i should have all the stuff for using datamaster pretty soon...

Re: switching to 3-bar

Sorry but we can tell you don't know what your doing.

Datamaster won't do anything for any chip to make it 3bar. It will let you monitor your truck but it won't let you change anything in the chip.

I would suggest you leave it STOCK, figure out what datamaster really does and make sure your truck is running correctly. I would bet you $$$ it is NOT running like it should without even seeing it.

The search key is a great tool here, as is just cruising past questions and topics.

Re: switching to 3-bar

That would be a pretty good bet JS.. considering 98% of these trucks dont run properly... lol

this thread is full of hilarity..

search.. search... search....

don't mod anything until it runs perfect in stock form.

Re: switching to 3-bar

easy guys everyone was new at one time, but i have to agree you really need to do the basic things first, tune up, fuel pump filter etc etc,And do some datamster runs get it running right stock first or you will be hating life.

Re: switching to 3-bar

i do have some of the basic thing to put on: fuel pump, regulator, filter, spark plugs and wires, 160 thermostat, and a few other things and i thought the 3bar could just be dropped in and since it was right there on top and didnt know that it would screw up stuff. i just thought wrong on how a 3bar was different from a 2bar, but now i know... im not an idiot when it comes to this stuff, im just not experianced with MAP sensors and a few other technical electronic things. i kinda know how they work, but i dont know the specifics, or why they work, but i know they just do :rotf: im not a computer or electrical expert, but im a machinist, so i'm more of a mechanical guy.

but now i know that you cant put in a differant map sensor without a chip

i do kinda feel like an idiot, but this is my first fuel injected/turbo vehicle i've had

from what i can tell, see SEEMS to be running pretty well, alot better than when i first got it anyways

Re: switching to 3-bar

push the search button then go to advanced. there make sure to change the find post to any date. this way you can do like me and read the o-g's post from back in the day. lots and lots of my nubie questions were answered. and never do anything to your truck first then ask question later. ask question here first no matter how stupid it may seem, your truck could go boom from the smallest little thing. people will make fun but they will make sure you get the right answer. we are all here to help you but you have to help yourself first. good luck
