Sy #0001

Hey all- i just finished checking out the pics of Sy #0001 on the Sportmachines site. This was the first I had ever seen or heard of that truck actually being in existance somewhere. It's supposedly in some boneyard in NY somewhere- anyone know where or if its even still there? Has anyone ever tried to make an offer on it? I've got some hookups with some small automotive museums and I'm wondering if we could get that thing out of the rain...

if I recall, thats not '91 Syclone #0001, but '92 Syclone #0001. last I heard it is infact there, but the yard owner will not sell it.

everything is for sale...for the right price. The last pic I saw was of it, well, it was just sitting outside rusting away.why? It deserves better.

someone must know who owns it. someone should aquire it and restore it.

the history alone behind it would make it a worthwhile project.

ok, maybe i didnt make myself clear before. Someone has already tried. They know who owns it, the guy who owns the yard owns it. They spoke to him, and he wouldnt even consider it, and any price, at least nothing even remotely reasonable, so unless Tim Allen or Jay Leno wanna fork over some cash for the cause, i think its a lost cause.

to add to the fact, its not salvagable....

it was a GM crash test vehicle. i dont think you could even get a salvage title on it being it was intended to be smashed could you?

How bout it?
:( It saddened me to take those pictures. I talked to a guy that worked there, to try to get his boss to sell, but he said that he wasn't intreased in selling. I should go take more pictures someday. I do have the money pic (VIN) if some one wants to host it. I hate to see it just rot away.

ok, screw this talk about "buying" and everything else.

I think the Militia needs to do a little B&E on this place and do a little S&R on #0001 :D

we should all try to buy that truck as the syty group..

take donations for parts...etc...labor, etc..

It would be interesting, to see the combination we could end up with.

Then the question would be, what to do with it once it was done...maybe sell it and pay for the nationals for the next XX years...hmm

ok, done wishful thinking...

give the militia some $$$$ to fly up to NY and some tools and a way to get the truck out of there quickly and quietly, i'll be there whenever you want.

well, if you decode the VIN, the 3rd digit "T" is there cause it must have left GMC as a complete truck, not as an incomplete truck heading to PAS.

the 4th digit "D" is there cause this truck has a Class D GVWR (5001-6000 lbs) why, i dunno.

also, for you slackers :D you will notice the 11th digit, is an "8" not a 0 like our trucks, meaning this particular Sy was made in Shreveport, LA plant, not Pontiac, MI.

theres the confusion...

why would this one lonely truck leave as a complete, yet 2 years worth of typhoons that came after it left incomplete?

possible that for crash testing, the vehicle must be a "complete" unit to valid for testing?

wheres the PAS employees when you need them?

OK, granted its kind of disappointing that the graveyard is where that Syclone will stay, but really, what would anyone do with it if they were able to buy it??? The only things that really make it stand out are the VIN and the 2 mile odometer, everything else would have to be replaced completely, so, in end, it would be a 1991 Syclone with a 92 VIN on the dash...all the other #s would probably end up disappearing in the midst of replacing the frame, block, floor, etc.

This truck is a lost cause. Cool find as 92 #0001, but GMC knew what they were doing when they finished destroying that thing before shipping it to that yard.
