Sy # 005 - 49k miles, prototype truck, needs nothing but a good home..

Hello all,

After 4 great years with #005 and a new job overseas it’s time to part ways with my truck. Let me say that this has been a great group and I have always found everyone I have interacted with to be helping and good people. Early on I had a number of questions and the support from you all was amazing. Not many online forums have such a solid group, and I thank you for all the advice and knowledge you have given me.

On to the truck:

Sy # 005

Previously owned by a fellow board member. I can’t remember who exactly right now but if you search the forum you will see posts about the truck. In great shape and has the distinct honor of being a prototype truck that was converted for sale to the general public. I have a letter from PAS instructing the selling dealer what to add/change in order to sell it. Sold originally at Jim Finney GMC in Carlsbad, CA. Have a ton of delivery paperwork, articles, newspaper clippings, original brochures and materials, automotive magazines etc all talking about the Syclone trucks. Have original owner’s manual, booklets, etc.

I would rather sell this to a board member than ebay or the internet. This truck should go to someone who will continue to care for it.

Mileage 49,220

Never been in an accident. I have never raced the truck in the time I have owned it. Clean and Clear Colorado title.

Condition:

Exterior – 7 out of 10. No rust anywhere, all original body panels and cladding. Paint has no fading but shows a little age. Polishes up very well. Few rock chips here and there but all original paint. Never been resprayed nor has the cladding. Only time any of it has ever been off was when I did a full 3 step wax on it. The only area that isn’t perfect is the bed which shows signs of being used as a bed. Nothing horrible but not as nice as the outside. The tonneau cover is in great shape. All original, no tears and still useable. Wheels are in great shape with no curbing or road rash. The clear coat is peeling in some spots as to be expected but the wheels look good with the original center cap locks and key.

Interior – 9 out of 10. I am always amazed how well these interiors hold up. Seats are perfect. The inflatable lumbar works perf. Carpet looks great. Original floor mats are in and covered by aftermarket carpet ones so everything remains nice. No splits in the dash. Door panels clean and solid. Headliner sagging as to be expected with age but scheduling to have it replaced next week. Other than that there is nothing wrong with the inside. Original radio (non-equalizer model) works great. Only interior mods are the addition of a 2 gauge A-pillar with a mechanical boost and narrowband Air/Fuel meter. Both Autometer gauges and both easily removed. Also have original A-pillar to return the inside to 100% stock. Gauge cluster in perf shape. No flipped needles and all gauges/lights work perf.

Mechanical – 10 out of 10. Everything works, including the ABS. Will go into greater detail when I talk about all the things I replaced/refurbished but no leaks, no surprises. Thanks to Dave P even the Low Turbo Coolant light works. Have to say in the 7000 or so miles I have put on this truck I thankfully have never had any problems. The oil has been changed every 6 months with either Royal Purple or Mobil 1 regardless of miles. When I got the truck I flushed the transmission and torque converter and had new Mobil 1 synthetic fluid put in with a new trans filter. Front and rear diffs drained and refilled with Mobil 1 fluids; GM limited slip lube added to rear diff per the manual. Feel free to ask more questions if there is something I didn’t cover. Original cross over tube still installed and in good shape. Had to repair one crack but otherwise solid. K&N air filter installed in original filter housing.

Items replaced/refurbished:

Rebuilt entire font suspension with Moog and Energy Suspension parts. New tie rod ends, ball joints, center link, bushings, sway bar bushings etc. Everything was removed, stripped, painted and put back together with new parts. Front suspension groans a little as poly bushings do but otherwise 100% solid.

New brake calipers, pads, rotors, bearings, etc. Cleaned, stripped and repainted the dust shields. New brake hoses. Entire system flushed and refilled with new fluid. Rears are in great shape and need nothing. Did put a new rear rubber brake line in just because I was already under there.

New rear diff gasket

New oil pan gasket – again just because I could while the front suspension was out.

New rear main seal – cured a leak

New Catalytic Converter. Original one worked fine but replaced when I redid the exhaust system – preventative maintenance.

Remanufactured steering box – again, just because I had the front steering off, figured why not

New remote oil filter to block lines. Original one leaked at filter housing.

New starter – same as above. Worked great and was the original. Still have it and will be included in sale.

New ABS hydraulic module. This was the only thing not working when I got the truck. Works great now.

New correct 4.3 MSD distributor and wires. Less than 2000 miles on them.

New silicone vacuum hoses. Bought a kit from a fellow board member. Replaced all the lines.

New CR42TS plugs. Have another set of 6 that will be included in sale.

New Firestone Firehawk tires. Installed at 43,500.

New rubber seals around wheel centercaps.

New door weatherstripping. Cab to door seals.

New antenna and grommet.

New u joints in front and rear driveshafts. Preventative maintenance.

New A/C low pressure switch and replaced the Freon (R-12 not 134a) & oil in A/C system.

New Sylvania Silverstar headlights.

New Low Turbo Coolant sensor in lower intercooler.

Rebuilt throttle body with new gaskets and air foil.

New correct AC Delco PCV valves.

New O2 Bosch O2 sensor. Again, didnt need it, just replaced while downpipe was out.

New energy suspension trans mount.

New Moog torsion bar mounts

Brand new battery, Duralast Gold, I got a month ago.

Mods:
Intercooler pump wired to run with key on.

Working Viper alarm with starter kill and door lock. Will lock doors but doesn’t allow for
unlock from remote. This is an old system from 1991 but it works well.

Intercooler hose rerouted: Input hose wrapped in heat reflecting tape and routed up driver side fender. Return line routed down passenger side fender. An auxiliary cooler was plumed behind the grill. So the flow goes from the upper intercooler, down to the lower/external one, through the auxiliary and back to the upper. ZERO heat sink on the upper cooler. After drive on a hot day the upper IC is cool to the touch and 40+ degrees cooler than the intake using an IR thermometer. The upper IC is also coated with heat Thermo-tec tape on the underside to prevent heat soak. System is filled with Water Wetter and de-ionized water. Nothing else. Have original intercooler pipes to be included in sale

Downpipe and crossover tube wrapped in Thermo-tec black header wrap and then coated with thermo-tec black sealer.

New water pump thermostat and upper and lower radiator hoses. Just preventive mantinence.

New Goodyear gatorback serpentine belt.

Vintage Borla exhaust system for Syclone. Bought off a board member and it sounds great, no leaks or issues what so ever.

Typhoon power mirrors. On when I bought the truck. The wiring is still in the door but I never had a need to hook up the power function, more for aesthetic.

Hard pipe between turbo and upper IC. Turbo XS blow off valve. Have original orange hose to be included.

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Came on the truck when I got it. Never had a need to touch it.

Everything I did is easily returned back to stock and nothing was modified to where it would be needed to be replaced to do so. Even the auxiliary intercooler was mounted using existing bolt holes in the core support.

This post is gone on forever, my apologies. There is prob some stuff I am forgetting. I will have pictures up this weekend after a good wash and wax. I am leaving next week so my uncle in Los Angeles will be handing the sale, we just drove the truck out there with no issues. He is very knowledgeable about these trucks and has owned one himself. He helped or advised me on everything done to the truck. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. PM me here and will have my uncle get in touch.

Price: $13,500 – clean and clear CO title.

Thanks everyone,

Paul

If you're ever in Estonia keep your eyes open for an Aspen Ty, and if you see it get the VIN.

Good luck with the sale.

Re: Sy # 005 - 49k miles, prototype truck, needs nothing but a good home..

phoonTy - Thank you for the offer. I sent an email your way. Please let me know if they don’t reach you.

Want to find this truck a good home and continued years of fun times like it has shown me. Got 2 people yesterday in traffic that were honking and smiling when they saw the truck. Fun when others appreciate the unique place of these trucks. Kind of sorry to see my Nephew part with it but it’s the right choice financially for him.

T-Bone

My nephew bought the truck and then ran into $ issues as young people sometimes do. I helped him out and paid off the loan on the truck.

He got a job in Eastern Europe (he works in the film industry) and left this week for the job. I took over this syty account and am helping him with the sale of the truck.

he wrote the original post and at the bottom it states I would be helping him with the sale.

Yes, Josh owned #005. Which is probably why the truck has "a Clean Colorado Title."
