Sy-1177 almost done with new paint (not 56k friendly)

I went and snapped some pics of the Sy today. The whole truck is now painted with Platinum Gray wich is found on the newer VW's. It still needs wetsanded and buffed out but i'll have it back by Friday for opening day at Norwalk. I also picked up some black Syclone and GMC Truck decals to go on it. Here it was before:

No, he painted and cleared the entire truck with the cladding off; installed the cladding; then painted and cleared again. He also did the mirrors and door handles which i'm not sure if I like but he said he can shoot them black again if I want.

No, he painted and cleared the entire truck with the cladding off; installed the cladding; then painted and cleared again. He also did the mirrors and door handles which i'm not sure if I like but he said he can shoot them black again if I want.

so he put at least one coat of paint and clear on the truck with the cladding ON :roll: thats gonna be fun to fix if it ever has to come off again.

That is correct. I guess I really didn't think about any problems with painting the cladding on the truck. He was more worried about scratching the paint by putting the cladding on after everything was already done and painted.


And thanks for all the compliments guys. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out with this color but after seeing it in his shop, I am extremely happy with the results!

not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but how do you think everyone else does it??? Either way the color is awesome, I would just be worried about spider cracks and such cause normall cladding does shift and move, if its actually painted together, will the paint keep the cladding in place or with the paint crack?? I guess we'll find out.

Nice looking paint! Do you have any rubbing issues with the GS wheels and drag slicks on the front when turning? I have the same exact setup and get a bit of rubbing on anything more that 1/2 turn.

They haven't rubbed yet but then again, I never make full lock turns with it either. I'm sure they would rub though. Did you ever decide what to do with your truck? Either get it painted or sell it? Personally, i'd keep it but thats just me... :wink:

I haven't sold it and have decided to keep it. The damn thing's too fun to sell. I still need to get it painted too. I will probably go straight black although yours has got me thinking. Be sure to post when all done!
