Re: Sy 768 Resto

please tell me with all the work you are doing you removed the cladding brackets?
Why do some people go as fare as removing them if they arnt even going to be visible? To replace damaged ones from removal? Always wondered why some get painter over and some get totally removed.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

why would you if there is no rust?

Because it is the right way to do it. you can see in the pictures he pulled the windshield and back glass it looks like so why not remove everything you can? Would you paint a car with out removing stuff as simple as tail or head lights?

The problem with leaving brackets, or even the people who paint a truck with the cladding on:tdown:. Is that you are laying material over an unprepared surface and are asking for the new material to lift and chip i that area which can then spread. Also the rocker brackets are pretty big and is hard to say whats underneath.

Like I said if you are going to go through all that work why not do it all and the right way the first time so it lasts and is of better quality.

Sorry if I sound like a prick it is unintended.

But the truck is looking good overall, I was trying to buy it when you picked it up locally. Defiantly is a solid start. And good luck with the rest of the project.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

Hey guys. Yah, all the brackets came off before paint. My painters is nuts! He paints custom show cars, and rhinos with crazy paint patterns that I could never afford.

Top of the truck was super clean before it went, not a spot of rust. The bottom looked like hell(lots of fluid leakage everywhere!) I have been told the motor is strong, but if it is thrashed no big deal.... all part of the plan... I have a grand scheme going, but I dont want to let the cat out of the bag just yet;)

Re: Sy 768 Resto

Truck is back from paint, and i have been trying to get everything ready to run. I will tell you what.... Priming the intercooler is a B!tch!!!

After I got everything together, Syntax came over to help me get it running. It turns over, has fuel, spark, and timing. But it wouldn't start. I think it is because the wire I ran to the starter is to small... Going to change it today and try again.

I will post some pics of the truck all painted when it is up and running and all clean.

Next up is Interior.... I am thinking black cloth seats with dark grey suede inserts and black piping. Doors would match of coarse. Some of the molding needs fixing, so I was thinking fiberglass sprayed with the same paint as the exterior of the truck. Any suggestions. Not sure I want to go red.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

I think SyTys that are black look awesome with argent cladding .... If that's what you mean about the red:?. I hate red in general in all forms = victory red, burgundy & etc sooo I hate the red trim on the SyTySoGT logos, seats, door panels, & the Syclone embroidery on the seats .... IMHO Black or Silver makes them look a Lot Better. I think IF you do your seats like Marty's whether they're leather or cloth but without the red they'd be as awesome IF not more IMHO.:2cents:

:tup::tup: Excellent work & craftsmanship

Re: Sy 768 Resto

Truck is running but I have been having some tuning problems. But I think that I got it all figured out. Anyway, wanted to share with you the bracket I made for the intercooler pump. Surflow pump, Griffin heat exchanger. I have it hooked up so that it will only turn on when the truck is running. Yeah, yeah, I know my camera sucks...

Re: Sy 768 Resto

Here is a recent pic. Still having boost problems. However, I think that I have it figured out. I think it is because the exhaust dumps right from the down pipe.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

So, just a funny story.

I thought that I offically joined the syty community yesterday. I'm still having some tuning problems, but I have been driving the truck around to get minor stuff done to it. I went to the exhaust shop to get the exhaust finished, and decided to take the freeway home to see if the overdrive works. I have not been pushing it into boost for fear that it will go to high and lead into kaboom... Anyway, I get on to the freeway and feel the truck feels like it is gonna die. It starts to loose power and oil pressure. I about crap my pants and pull over to the side, thinking I blew something up. I pop the hood to take a look. No smoke, no oil leeks, things seem normal. Then I start thinking.... I only put about 2 gallons of fuel in it when I was getting it ready to start. But, the gauge still says 1/2 a tank. Then I remember when I bought it something was said about "gauges not working" or something like that. :rotf:

So there I am on the side of the road looking like an idiot because I ran out of gas.

Re: Sy 768 Resto

I has been a while, so I will give you guys a quick update.
Gutted the interior. While the paint was getting done, I went a head and ordered some stuff. New weather stripping, a new carpet kit, and sent ALL the interior out to be re-done. Here is a pic of how it looks right now. I'm getting ready to pull the dash in the next day or so.

I can't wait to post pictures of the all of the interior that is done. Holy S#!t the seats look sooooo nice. As soon as I get it back I will upload some pics. Just a side note... I am positive that I am going to have a wiring problem ahead. I don't think it is anything that I can't handle, but I might need to ask some questions for a little help.
