Sy-clone build

Re: Sy-clone build

well i got the dash out rearranged the wiring and got it all back together, finally had a friend come help and took less than an hour with 2 guys. i had to work to get him to come out, doesn't help that i live 30 min from anything at all.

anyways after having the trans out 3 or 4 different times, scatter brains i kept forgetting stuff, it's all back together driveline in, got a bunch of misc crap done and picked up the car trailer, truck goes to get exhaust in the morning.

while my dad is building the exhaust i hope to come up with a nice slick place to hide the 6A box and wire it up, put the stupid thing in time and she'll be ready for a kinda first time fire up and maybe even a quick round the block test drive.

wheew 4 1/2 years, finally coming together, as of right now i still don't have a 4x4 chassis so i'll drive it around the way it is till i find a good donor truck or chassis.

Re: Sy-clone build

quick update, i found the right seat brackets for buckets, they came from an extended cab pickup but blazer is NOT interchangeable.

got em welded in today, along with the center console brackets, got oil cooler lines ran and hooked up, brakes bled, shifter cable hooked up.

things left to do...

mount 6a box and wire up
put in distributor and time
fill trans with fluid
exhaust
build a throttle bracket that will accomodate 700r4 tv cable, throttle cable and cruise cable
build brackets for a blazer rear bumper
slice up tow hitch to fit inside frame rails and be completely hidden
flip up license plate for reciever hitch to come through

once i can put the AWD chassis under it,

finish building the 9in.
4l60e
new exhaust
new headers
core support for 91+ grille
new radiator
electric fans instead of flex fan
motor build time, maybe turbo build........?:turbo:

Re: Sy-clone build

well i had been trying to find the cheapest way to make TCC lockup in this 700r4 til i could do the AWD swap and then i wouldn't need the trans anymore since i was planning on using the 4l60e....well

i pulled the pan today to change the filter and found some nice needle chunks, and lots of magnetic mud so looks like she's already on the way out and hasn't even been ran yet

looks like now it might not see much road time at all before the swap, since it will most likely $hit out on me first

Re: Sy-clone build

well it's done for now, runs and drives on it's own, has full exhaust, got a blazer rear bumper and hidden tow hitch on, what a PITA. here's some install pics. although it seems there are a few missing.

truck is so low that once i were to reach the diff with a jack, the handle is almost against the bumper

brought the blazer bumper closer to the back of the bed for a cleaner look, exactly 3/4 in away. rather cut up a blazer bumper then put the sy/ty bumper on and cut it up, still haven't decided yet about the GT or syclone cladding or just a chrome GMC grille and front bumper with the fog light valance and leaving the handles black and black trim tails.

only chrome would be grille and front and rear bumpers, i dunno yet though.

was thinking of it looking like this truck if i don't do the cladding

Ian, looks good so far. If I was building it for myself, I'd go with body-colored grille and chrome bumpers. Chrome grills just seem out of place now, but painted bumpers seem too much to me, 1980's mono-chromatic look and all. ZQ8 wheels look good, too. Bring that circus wagon:tup: to Turbo Thunder if nothing else runs. Think I've got my problems worked out....... I hope.

Re: Sy-clone build

well now that you mention body colored grille i happen to have gotten a nice extra grille with my syclone, from his wrecked typhoon. was thinking of putting that on.

but i need to get the front clip off this thing sold first so i can get the newer core support and all my bew ideas.

the core support for the old 3 piece style grille is completely different from the core support for 91-93 grilles (the one piece grille). i have a spare core support, and will be doing a different style radiator, redoing the core support to fit my A/C condenser and the newer fenders and new hood.

the trans is almost shot in this thing, i had used it before in my v8 blazer while the trans for it was being built, seemed to shift ok in the blazer. well i had to lift the cab off the frame to get to the bellhousing bolts so it's a mother F'er to pull out.

decided to pull the trans pan off and change fluid and filter and found most of the needles in the pan, so it's only a matter of time before i have to get towed home for the trans completely blowing up. so i'm not 100% sure if i want to risk a tow bill from northern WA
