anyone know what this guy here does? it's tied in with the harness that the heater plug is in, may be provisons for something i don't have
DSC00111.jpg

This is part of the AC or Heater plug. It is for the Resistor that is mounted on the Evaporator or Heater case.

Close. It's actually the blower motor Relay Can tell by the wire colors.

Thanks Dave that what I was thinking when I type it, but I was still waking up.:rotf: :rotf:

Re: 86 s10 2wd v8 to AWD v8 conversion

haha got off early today and got the cover PAS added over the 4x4 hole with the hole for shifter cable and front shifter bracket on it off of the rest of the floor cut that i got. i'll get pics up later.

get it sitting in the right spot, tacked and sealed and then the rear bracket and center console is done!

damn so close for the doors to go on now and then the dash....when i hole sawed the holes in the sides of the cab for door wiring to go through, i used these sweet calipers that were off almost 1/8 in off so the holes are to big and the door gromets fall out.

Davep mentioned epoxying a plate inside with smaller holes but i think i'm just going to take the easy way out and have my dad add some weld in there and then grind it smooth and round. won't take long but i can't get the truck out of my shop to his because of the donor blazer being in the way.

on another note i think i may have the transmission problem figured out thanks to george blake....gave me a great idea. i'll let you guys know if it ends up working out for me.

oh got the Bravada trans crossmember out saturday as well....getting closer. once the trans is figured out i will have everything except the frame...a big part of the awd swap. lol haven't been under a GM in about 2 years and ended up getting the crossmember out in 35 mins at the junk yard with the truck only sitting at ride height on wheels. no jack or anything.

i didn't fit under there to well but got it out and was impressed at how quickly given the circumstances.

i left the engine trans and transfer only being held up in the rear by a strap tied around the torsion bars.

i neeeded the torsion bar crossmember but i didn't have the time or tools to get it

can anyone tell me for sure if there is a difference between the s10 rear center console bracket on the floor and sy/ty rear bracket for the shifter?

UPDATE: New setback

UPDATE: New setback

i've had my hours cut back at work this week, thankfully and have been getting a bit done here and there. put the column shift steering column in the truck a few minutes ago and found two really sweet things.

1. there are 4 bolts the bolt the column to the firewall. for some reason one of the nuts welded to the opposite side of the firewall is not in the right position, IE the nut is off from the hole in the firewall by half the hole. weird thing is looking at it the best i could around the booster, it looks like a factory weld and factory paint over it.

i don't understand but i guess the booster needs to come back off to enable me to cut it off and reweld. NO FUN

2. after getting over the column issue and deciding to hook up the steering shaft, got it on the column and turned the wheel and it CLUNKED.

i am thinking WTF?

so i look and the joint on the shaft before the gear box, and someone seems to have robbed off part of the joint. i can't even explain it but man it pisses me off.

AND to top it off when i went up to my dads place last weekend to turn my blazer over and get some oil pressure built up i noticed that my oil breather was gone, wierd...well after this steering shaft business and the breather and a few other odds and ends that have come up missing, IE the ECU out of my blazer that was chipped and tuned to make the v8 run i am SURE that it's the stupid people over at the trailer park across the field from my dads place.

at first i kept think i had taken these other items that came up missing off and out them somewhere i looked in all of my s10 parts hiding spots and found none of them. then after thinking about it theres no reason i would have taken these things off in the first place.

I am SURE some jackass is robbing parts off my trucks, i'm so pissed right now.

looks like i'll have to get that blazer out to my shop soon before they try stealing the damn motor to!!!:rant::rant:

thats strange because the donor blazer does not have this plug or anything on the heater box that it could plug into

You should find a relay that looks like this mounted on the left side of the case shown as # 12 in this illustration. They may have mounted it on # 13. using the length of wire as a guide you should be able to find the mounting location. The relay is mounted using (2) 10 mm screws if I recall correctly. Hope this helps.

Re: 86 s10 2wd v8 to AWD v8 conversion

Re: 86 s10 2wd v8 to AWD v8 conversion

so i hauled the truck up to my dads place tonight to get some welding done, i had been meaning to build a tow bar but kept forgetting, well after tonights fiasco it's getting done.

i borrowed a trailer from work. of cousre this trailer is used to haul small cats and stuff on it so it's pretty hefty and the angles are terrible and of course it has no winch and they won't let me put a winch on it nor drill holes for a removable winch.

i had to put boards on the ramps so i wouldn't catch the gas tank or frame rails, and the going on went smooth. when i went o pull it off all i had was my dads little tractor and this stupid bar withwome ends welded on and holes drilled in so i figured i'd bolt it to the frame of the truck and the frame of the tractor.

so coming off the trailer the truck slipped off the boards and came down sideways getting the frame stuck on the ramps, and by that time i had no way to maove the ass over so it was basically go ahead on it and just deal with whatever happens.

well the bar got to such an angle sideways that the truck flew off the trailer bent the bolts on the bar and smashed into the front of the tractor, it's dark out so i couldn't see well but it ruined the tail light, but i don't think it got the actual bed.

BAD NIGHT

hopefully i can get him to do the welding soon and i will use his nice trailer with a winch to haul it home again and get back on my way to putting it together.

it's so close...once the welding is done the doors can go on, followed by the dash and once i weld the brackets on for the shifter then it can go in as well, and start putting all the plastics inside. this truck was originally a base model so it had none of the side plastics with speakers, the rear cab carpet and retainer and all that junk so some drilling for the screw holes and the interior will be DONE. oh except for the bucket seat brackets

i am not going to hook up AC yet, waiting till the frame swap, so i'll throw my old enigne harness on get the front end back together some bumpers and this buitch will drive...i hope to get it done and driven atleast once before i leave for the BAJA 1000 desert race in mexico in november.

if anyone has any nice black trim stock tail lights i need them now. i figured on replacing the chrome trim ones before but i thought i could just trade them in at the wrecking yard but i only have one now

Re: 86 s10 2wd v8 to AWD v8 conversion

so for an update, since i got the terrible WHILE I'M HERE SYNDROM that i said i would not do.

i am at...

$100 for transfer case
$75 for the front diff
$25 for bravada torsion bars (not even sure why i got them)

plus i have now decided to use the 4L60E and get a TCI controller

the truck is done at my dads and back to my shop with no incident this time, and it turned out awesome, way better than i expected

so now add $1094 (will add shipping)

current budget
($1294)

a bit over my guess of under $1k but it'll be worth it

Re: 86 s10 2wd v8 to AWD v8 conversion

dash is nearly ready to go in. need to get the plastic piece from the wrecking yard that goes behind the ebrake and then it can go in.

i didn't pull the dash out of the donor blazer my buddy did it while i was gone and now continues to flake out when i ask him to come help put it in.

i have no idea how the heater ducting and wiring sets in the dash all i see is a big jumble mess of wires. what a nightmare and man do i HATE dealing with anything that has to do with wiring.
also realigning a uncentered cab and nose by yourself is a PITA.

still need to get seat brackets, and bolt down the center console brackets

OK LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS IS HUGE, AFTER 5 YEARS MY TRUCK HAS A DASH IN IT, AND EVEN A GAUGE CLUSTER.

i had forgotten how they went back together, and none of my friends ever come over for shop night anymore, something about having lives or something.... anyway

luckily enough for me i drive an s10 as my company truck so i just pulled the dash out of it to refresh my memory and then put em both back together.

well here it is with the extreme wheels and also doors on it now

Re: Sy-clone build, got a little more done

Re: Sy-clone build, got a little more done

got a bit more done this week, got the engine harness ran and all plugged in, steering column in and plugged in as well.

a few little things i can't really remember, once i get back form the california and mexico trip at the end of the month i will get the exhaust modified to fit my headers i had extended down to get away form the cab floor and the trans, makes for easier collector bolt up.

still need to bolt in the shifter brackets to the floor, decided i did not want to weld them in,and weld in some seat brackets..guess i'll just have to modify some blazer style ones

i did notice my gauge cluster bezel fits like crap though, almost like the brackets are bent but they are not, weird.

i am so glad i finally got a covered place to work on this thing, being in oregon and outside for the last few years i had no drive to work on it because it was either 100 degree's raining or freezing cold. now i can walk out and play with it for a few mins and not have to worry as much about it being covered from the weather, now i just have to deal with spiders.

i've decided to use my old grille style core support since i spent so much time making it look good back in the day anbd having it powder coated, never really paid much attention to a better one peice style grille on other trucks. before i knew much of anything about s-series and sy/ty's.

once i find a 4x4 frame to set the body on and do that swap i'll redo my newer core support with an A/C condenser in mind, and after everything is how i want it i'll tear it all back apart and send it out for paint.

and hopefully by then i will have found a decent painter in the area, it's so hard to find a good one around here. my dad has gone through many painters locally on customer cars that have flaked out or done a crappy job.

Re: Sy-clone build

a bit more progress done..

got the dash all put together and most of the engine is ready to go, as soon as the performance shop opens monday i can order my fan, getting the carb rebuilt once my dad gets some time next week. fill with antifreeze and it should be ready to fire.

i primed the oil pump yesterday so thats done, there is no viscosity left to the oil so an oil change is in order before fire up.

i set a battery in a few minutes ago and was checking to see if i had screwed up any wiring, the key turns on but the starter would not engage, have to check if it's not getting fire or if it went bad over the past 4.5 years sitting outside.

can't check to make sure the windows work with the switch til i get a 2 door drivers side, i'll steal the one off my blazer, although i had the lock and window plugs mixed up on the driver side so i could lock the pass. door and roll down the drivers window at the same time, lol it's the new thing and everybody is doing it.

i have 2 plugs hanging underneath the column that i can't find a place to plug into so those may be the culprit of the no starter fire also.

Re: Sy-clone build

so i cleaned out the shop last night to move some stuff out and move a motor in and i can't believe that i would find my passenger door wiring harness that i had misplaced and in turn i had one made, and now that the truck is nearing completion i would find it.....irony

Re: Sy-clone build

should be, i tore it apart a month after graduation in 04, so this is a long time coming, i guess the biggest thing was i lost interest, i wanted to see it done but didn't want to take the time to do it.

it took me a couple years of playing with imports to finally realize i needed to get it going again and fiinished.

Re: Sy-clone build

oops, so i decided i was going to put my spare 2wd 700r4 in, i got under the truck and realized i don't have access to the trans bolts. the cab did not get any modifying to the trans tunnel when the new cab was put on.

i just set it on, i may end up having to lift the cab up to get to the trans bolts.

damn it, i'll see what i can find but thats a problem

Re: Sy-clone build

I just did this 3 days ago on a 2wd s-10 its not that hard.
First disconnect the driver-side header to give the engine some wiggle room.
Next hook up an engine hoist and unbolt the engine mount from the engine & rubber mount.
Lower the engine to where the oil pan is just about to rest on the frame.
With the trans cross-member removed you should be able to reach them all just fine but a swivel helps on the upper side ones.
Good luck!

Re: Sy-clone build

ended up finding it much easier to lift the cab up, had to lift about 5in off the frame but much easier for me than unbolting the motor. i got the trans out about half an hour ago, stupid automatic trans crap, i remember why i hate pulling them now.

i thought i had tipped it back far ennough to dump all the fluid out, messed with getting the cooler hoses off til i ended up cutting them since i was getting pissed off, got the stupid thing on the ground and pulled the dip stick tube to get it out from under the truck, well i lost about 2 gallons of ATF on the floor.

anyways i am now awaiting somoene to answer me if there is some type of an ID number on the trans that can be ran so i know what it came out of and which one is good and which one is bad. i got my 2 700's mixed up.

still have not pulled the dash out again yet to rearrange, i'm stalling, don't wanna do it
