OK... all kidding aside...if this is really gonna happen we gotta plan out the stratagy a little. i really believe in the concept "know thine enemy"
first of all, although i have never raced a mclaren, main reason is i have never seen one personally and there just aren't that many. is this one of the bmw powered ones or the benz. most people are familiar with the version with the v12 bimmer but don't know about the benz model. totally different. first lets look at the enemy and decide what it will take to beat him.
granted... fastest car in the world. but not a drag racer. supercar top end and handeling performance. they are fast outta the hole, but nothing like they are fast from 100 on out.
just like the rest of the super cars, they are not set up for hole shots. the trans doesn't like it (yea right...like ours do!), the tires are super low profile which are great for handeling, but not for drag race shots. it is possible to burn em up outta the hole. also, if it not just right they'll bog. that happens i'd slaughter em.
they are not geared for hole shots.
but always remember... this is one of the most fantastic automobiles ever produced. the faster it goes, the better it works. the aerodynamics alone make it in a class all by itself.
it goes 0-60 in about 3 seconds. that's haulin
it'll do 0-100 supposedly in about 6 and a half if he can shift well and work the clutch well.
supposedly it'll run the quarter in about 11 seconds
and ya gott realize one thing... after the quarter, it's all over. he'll flat destroy you, and everybody else on the road.
so what will it take to beat him? i don't know what you're running so i can't comment on that. i can though compare a syclone that i think could whip him in the quarter mile, and that's mine. but i'd want to know the rules of the race. if he shows up with racing slicks, i wouldn't race him. not because i think he would beat me, but because it takes the advantage away from me.
all the times that are listed for these things are with professional drivers who can wring everything out of them. this guy probably can't do that. reaction time on this race counts big time. he's got a stick, street tires and i don't care how many bucks he has, in the back of his mind he doesn't want to break it and hole shots are hard on these types of cars, so be ready
i timed mine with a video camera and a stop watch once and got about 2.4 i think 0-60. (it's in my signature) the rest of my signature says the rest. it's right off the time tickets. my eighth mile is about 6.7 or .8 and 105 to 109 depending on altitude. so i'm pretty sure i can wax his butt in the eighth if he runs 0-100 in 6.5. his quarter mile time is about 11 flat. if i run 11 flat i'll be sick. again, depending on altitude, we'll run from 10.3 to 10.6. we had best et at the sport truck shootout with a 10.40 something this summer in 90 heat and 100 percent humidity.. jim and matt would be a little further ahead in the quarter, but with their 400 tran they are totally tapped out speed wise. did ya happen to see the post a while back under drivetrain "how fast is 5500 in fourth gear?" lets say its 175 mph. i might be able to hole him off a little longer, but once we get to say 150 mph he's gonna come around me like i'm standin still.
i'm just trying to give you an idea of how i think i would do. i would be running c16. he will be running street gas. these guys don't tune for race gas. if he says you gotta run pump gas, it would slow me down like mad. it would be really close for me if i had to run pump gas. i think i could probably hold him off to about 150, maybe a little more. past that i might as well be peddalin.
so there it is in a not shell. i would make sure everybody knew where the finish line was and wouldn't stay on it one foot further than i had to. the only shot you have is at the line, so if he show up on racing slicks, forget it.
ya gotta run at least 11 flat to have any chance at all. take out anything thats not bolted down in your sy. spare tire and all that stuff. i'm gonna share a little trick that i swore i was gonna keep quiet about. (damn...) an s10 4 cylinder gas tank is 12 gallons total and will fit right in a sy. quite a bit lighter in fuel if ever bit counts. when's this supposed to happen? don't let me not know when it happens. email me.
GOOD LUCK BUDDY!
