Syclone back on the streets

Hey all, I just got the old sy out of my garage, after its been basically sitting for the past couple years (it got driven around every other month or so), because I was driving my D-max around town and saw the big numbers $4.21 on the diesel pumps...so i decided it was time to put the sy back into service so i can pay almost a dollar less for gas...but i've had the sy for 6 years now, and now that i'm driving it again i figure its probably a good time to join a forum...especially since i've got a heater core to do in my very near future, and a couple other maintenence odds and ends...but anyway, hello to all!

Questions: How do you like your shifter (I assume it locks you out of neutral/reverse)?
Whats the two switches for (they look like aircraft arm/disarming switches)?
thx

Wow...Impressive...I thought only true racing vehicles used ratchet shifters. Obviously Im wrong...
The reason being (according to info on the web):

1. Operation required for normal city driving is excessive.
[Ratchet shifters move one gear position at a time. Push it forward or pull it back and it only moves one position. You need to ratchet it again to move into the next position. Starting all the way back in first gear, you push the shifter forward into second. When you release the shifter, the handle comes back into a neutral position waiting for the next shift. You push it ahead again and you're in third gear and the handle comes back for the next gear. So it's always push, release, push, release].

2. Training required for inexperienced drivers (ie valet or significant others).
[When you're ratcheting it back and forth through the gears you need to rely on an indicator to tell you what gear you're in because the handle is always in a center neutral position. A gate shifter, in contrast, can be moved through the gears quicker depending on the gate design and you can easily look at where the handle is to know what gear position you're in].

3. A Gate shifter would more apt to be used (as an shift lever improvement for street use)
[Gate shifters use a "gate" to move the shifter through the gears. The gate is normally designed so it will only move one gear at a time. Starting all the way back in first gear you would push the shifter up into second. The handle will stay in that position. From there, the shifter would move over before it could be moved up into third. That's the "gate".
A gate shifter also allows the use of an air/electric shift device to do 1-2 shifts controlled by an rpm switch].

Your other mods appear relatively mild/normal, however your interior pics shows your
stealthness and racing intentions. Neat. Thanks for posting pics.

lol, yea she looks faster then she is...i had intentions of make her fast, but ended buying other vehicles and putting the sy into hybernation.
as far as the ratchet shifter goes, the operation is very simple...and very helpful IMHO. maybe it was just my truck, but when shifting manually with the stock shifter it was very easy to overshoot 2nd gear (go from 1st to 3rd) while launching, and although it doesn't go into 3rd, it just feels sloppy...the shifter acts like a normal shifter with an interlock untill D, then if you want to go to first its 3 ratches down..and the same thing to get back up, it makes it so you can't skip a gear...and if i'm not trying beat on the truck i just leave it in D, the trans still has an automatic valve body in it...and as far how much do i move it while i'm driving..not that much if i'm just cruzin around, but any hard launch i'll drop it down, the 700R4 has an extra set of clutches that it engages when you drop it in first that normally aren't on when it is in Drive in first

if i remember the stock boot won't fit like it is, because its round and the b&m is square, you could probably make it work, but you would have to re-stitch it
