Syclone JSM Suspension Prototype DONE!

We just finished the prototype and mockup of the syclone specific rear suspension kit. Testing will start shortly with many miles and abuse on the test truck before we move into production. One of the big challenges of the syclone -vs- the typhoon 4 link we designed is the gas tank location. The gas tank ends up being right where the top left bar needs to go in order to have proper geometry. With much research and thought we came up with what turned out to be a great solution a 3 Link design. With a 3 link (or non triangulated 4 link) a locating bar is required. In most cases this is done via a panhard bar. The decision was made to step up the game even further and develop a watts link instead. This offers several advantages from a suspension tuning and performance standpoint I will go into over the coming weeks via JSM tech topics.

Many hours were spent thinking through every feature, a pile of scrap cnc cut flanges and parts remain in the messy shop now. But I am VERY excited at what we came up with, and with us teaming up with Viking on the shocks/springs again I am confident this kit will be a performance breakthrough. Did I mention this is completely bolt in (drill 4 holes). Did I also mention the custom Syclone logo on the watts bracket, that will also include custom truck # plates when we go into production?

More details a specific reasons why certain design features were made to come via Tuesday suspension tech topics we have been posting on facebook. (be glad to post them here also)

Sounds and looks like it's going to be a great kit.
Look forward to seeing the photos........

Re: Syclone JSM Suspension Prototype DONE!

Truck finally drove last Saturday after ordering different springs for rear, and replacement brake lines for the front. (I had a race with the top fuel bike in between also).

Right off the rack and on the street the truck drove great. The ride height was LOW, a bit too low to be honest and will be adjusted sometime this week. But even at the low height I felt it rode 10 times better than it did with 2" blocks, stock front.

Jeremy has the truck back in his hands again for some abuse this week, and if things go ok it might see a drag strip Friday. I am very happy with how it is working, be some tuning of shock settings to play with and possible instant center adjustment, but all is working well and I don't see any major changes from prototype design. (just few minor tweaks).

Next step will be to cut, weld, powdercoat all new brackets for his truck, as well as the first production truck we will personal install to verify everything for a 2nd time.

Am I correct in thinking that it wouldn't take much to make this work with a regular 2wd S-series? I'm definitely interested.

I suspect it will bolt in place with no additional work at all. Be glad to work with someone to verify when the time comes.

Great link Don. On our JSM facebook page we have been posting weekly tech topics to help educate people on the terms of suspension, etc. I realize though not all people waste part of their life on facebook though and have future plans to include a lot of tech info on our webpage that is under development. The best customers are educated ones and suspension is a black art to most.

How much are you guys thinking it'll cost? It seems the best route weather you have a stock tank or not. I do not.

Re: Syclone JSM Suspension Prototype DONE!

Typhoon kit is $1250 without shocks, this one is going to be about $150 more due to the increase in cost for the hardware associated with watts link.

Shocks/springs are ~$450 for double adjustable. As we have moved the shocks mounts around to get the shocks as vertical as possible (stock shock angle is horrible if you look), you will need a shorter shock than stock. If you get shocks/springs from us or not it is key they be the right length.

The spring rate on the syclone is a bit of a trick also. I believe we have the best compromise right now between nice ride while empty, and still able to put your gallon of milk and eggs in the back.

Jeff, you tease. I dig it. My only problem is its 700 or less for caltracs and Calvert split monos. How will this be better!? Read this as I know it's better, esp with a watts, but 2x's more money, minus shocks.

Fair question and suspension isn't for everyone for sure.

~50lb weight reduction
adjustable roll center
adjustable instant center
easily adjustable ride height and wheel centered in wheel well

from a handling around corners there is no comparison in my opinion to a caltrac. Caltrac has its place but it is a bandaid to issue, not a real fix and only helps for straight line acceleration.

I would say for those skeptical, sit back and wait and see what others say when they install it. That is really the true test that isn't bias.

Would love to see a video of sort autocrossing to see how it performs. I agree with you I want more than just straight line handling. :)

Re: Syclone JSM Suspension Prototype DONE!

Any update on how the test truck is holding up?

Test truck suspension is doing just fine, but had the flexplate come loose (2nd time), with that the transmission is coming out, maybe motor even to fix some things on the to do list.

Parts send to florida for final test fitting (if your on fb syty you will have seen that post). I am confident in the design and performance. It just takes significant effort to go from a 1 off install, to a kit that installs without issues.on all trucks.
