Syclone problems

I purchased my Syclone in May. This truck has ran sluggish every since I purchased it. I have change the cap and rotor, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel flow is normal and I have put a "high performance" shift kit in the transmission. The power is still not there. It is almost the slowest vehicle I have (will beat my 2000 suburban). The RPMs barely goes over 4 and it gradually shifts from one gear to the next. Does anyone have any sugestions on what I should be looking to do next. Do I have to much expectation for this vehicle or did I get the one a lot of issues. I am panning to take it to JBA racing to have them run a diagnostic check on it Monday. Any help would be greatly aprreciated.

Re: Syclone problems

shift kits are a no no, if the tranny doesn't shift hard w/o the kit something is wrong with the tranny

Re: Syclone problems

possibly a plugged catalytic converter, wastegate stuck open, bad aftermarket chip (like the ones on egay), ripped turbo to intercooler pipe.

....just some ideas

Re: Syclone problems

stock good working trans has no need for a shift kit and you would agree if you felt one in action..

it could be anything from something small like the wrong plugs or gapping to a total waste of a trans \ engine..

i'd post up where your located and see if there are any local syty owners that can scan it for you and see really what the deal is.. also get a compression check while your at it because you have to stay on top of these trucks if you want to push them hard and very rarely will you find owners that don't drive these trucks hard

X3 on the shift kit. It is a BIG no no! I went through 3 trannies on my old TY before realizing it was the shift kit.

Re: Syclone problems

Sound like I have messed up by putting the shift kit in my tranny. My engine compressions for 1-3 was 150 and for 4-6 was 155. I still have the stock chip and I have an aftermarket catback exhaust. My turbo boost will go to 15lbs, but no movement from the truck. Totally lost on the truck

Re: Syclone problems

Your truck is probably detonating under boost and the computer is retarding the timing (knock retard). Only way to diagnose is get with someone with a laptop Scan tool to give it a good look. When I got my truck it ran 14.40, I ended up getting it to run 13.01 without any more parts, just correcting all the problems. Goes to show how much performance you can loose on one of these trucks, if you don't have all your ducks in a row...

im 2nd on that, check gaps, vac leaks, etc its prolly something small.

Does anyone have a scan tool and lives close to San Diego? I will drive the truck to your area to see if I can get this thing run correctly.

You would prob get more responses on this question if you create a new thread about it

hope someone's close that can help you out

Re: Syclone problems

When mine did that the only thing I forgot was to set the timing. Have you checked that?

I checked the timing about a month ago. The time was right and the problem existed at that time also.

Re: Syclone problems

a quick way to find out if its' detonation(without a scan tool) is run some race gas through it. No, it's not good for the o2 sensor or cat but it could get you started in the right direction. If the truck "comes alive" it was detonation. Other than that, you really need a scan tool. Oh, and sign up on the "scanmaster" thread ;) we need this to become a reality for our trucks.

Re: Syclone problems

what are the gaps on your plugs at?
Are you 100% sure that none of your wires have touched a heat source and become burnt amd is now causing arch? Sounds like that, and, or a vac leak could be the culprit. By chance do you still have the stock heat shields on you manifolds? Is the cap on the TB in the proper location, cracked or not there at all(littlr rubber thingy, covers the pipe hole)?
OR
what about that bolt that holds the dist down... it may not be 100% tight, so my point is it could be moving slightly and the comp cant make up for the floating timing.
Have you cleaned the TB and checked the 2 electronic parts on it for wear/rust being stuck? Engine grounds little things?
