Re: SyTy FAQ that I wrote

These ones are GREAT and FREE!!! (Thanks SportMachines)
These are the books that GM technicians got back when the trucks were being made to learn to service them for customers.

This one will teach you how the truck works...
Syclone Service Highlights (PDF, 4.0 MB, 32 pages)
http://www.sportmachines.com/maintenance/syclone_service_highlights.pdf

This is a good service guide to supplement the BIG books
Driveability and Service Reference Manual (PDF, 2.6 MB, 20 pages)
http://www.sportmachines.com/maintenance/driveability_service_reference_manual.pdf

Another good supplement for the big books
Master Technician Overview (PDF, 5.4 MB, 60 pages)

I have been writing up a basic engine/newbie FAQ. Their used to be one on the old syty.net and I finally got around to doing one after about 3-4 years of saying I would. This also might be a worth while post and/or sticky for the newbie section. Please critique, my writing, my information, & omissions. I won't be insulted.

By the way... thanks for writing that.
I printed it and have it in my SyTy owners binder.

A Syclone/Typhoon owner "probably" needs to know the following:

-a bit about the factory turbo including wastegate, boost and "3 bar" terminology

-a bit about the ECM (boost learning, limp mode, knock etc)

-a bit about the IC (pump failure, IC rerouted lines, MAP temps etc)

-a bit about fluid temps (160 thermostat, fans such as spal, and under the hood temps)

-a bit about tranny (Drive vs OD, TC Lockup, tranny temps, lubeguard, etc)

-a bit about air filter (stock inlet, K&N upgrade, Kenne Bell Upgrade, battery relocation)

-a bit about importance of voltage (alternator, undrive pulleys, starter/solinoid, relay, etc)

-a bit about driveline (AWD wheel dia matching, propshaft upgrade,

-suspension - torsion bar adjustment, rear springs/lowering, sway bars
front steering stablizer, stock shocks vs coilovers)

-a bit about key gauges (temp, boost, fuel pressure, whatever)

-a bit about modifications (S10 wheel cyclinders, motor mounts, grease fittings,
proper alignment, spark plugs/cap/wires, afpr, fuel pump, vacuum lines,
blade of death, traction bars, Elephant Ear/Mirror Replacement, Graphics Replacement
cladding cleaning, etc)

-and a bit about vendors (those on this list who know SyTy's, vs generalist).

Ive always thought that new owers go through the same type of stages,
where 1) learning vehicle (launching, handling, debugging, terminolgy/meaning, etc);
2) cosmetic enhances (wheels/tires, fit/finish of cladding/paint/interior/bed cover)
and Vin Number/Vehicle Sequence Number relationship (with differences between
91-93 like red/black grill letters etc) 3) minor modifications for performance
(like 20g, ultimate chip, etc)

Anyways, I could be wrong - meaning that the above info is known by everyone
and thats the reason they bought the vehicle (SyTy) in the first place

BTW, Ive always enjoyed your posts!

Some of your suggestions are planned in different sections & a couple things are good suggestions. A good portion of your lists are covers elsewhere, this is kind of an eye opener, I know where they are, but I supose not everyone else does. It might be a good idea to do a link page of good SyTy info.

Re: SyTy FAQ that I wrote

I wrote an FAQ yeas ago (actually a reply to a post that was turned into an FAQ) and it was linked off the main page of the old syty.net for quite some time. No idea what happened to it - dig around and merge anything that would help into yours and maybe the one for the new .org

I have a first draft of my SyTy Racing FAQ page. Feel free to pick it a part. I could probably use some better writing skills

I might add a general racing stuff section to this pagr. I might also add in about 60' as well. Some of the other stuff I am going to add to the modification page. The rest of the more advanced stuff I will leave for others..
