Joined the mailing list in early '98 (junior year of HS). Learned about NATS, attended, and haven't looked back. I still think of Phipps when I hear the name Ivan, Pearson when I hear the name Chris, and SyTy-Jesus when I see a lightpole, nunchucks, or cut-off jean shorts.

QUOTE=Don W.;798405]Ahem, SyTy old guys eh? I wuz all excited. Thought you were looking for owners that were old. Not old owners. Oh well. Bought mine in Dec 2002. Geez, has it been that long. Been here that entire time. You guys are cool.[/QUOTE]

Ditto, I just turned 45. I bought mine in 2007, but wanted one the first time I saw one in 1999:tup:[

Was that the 99 or 2000 Nats? Can't remember....

Not an OG... didn't get my first Syclone and join the list until fall of 98. I did buy a SoGT new, though, when I worked for GM in the early 90's.

I'm still here. I joined the mailing list in 1995, I think. Dig used to answer every post.

Jim

For a period of time, I *was* the mailing list. People would send me emails, and I would forward them to the group. Manually.

I'd even correct spelling/grammar if I had time that day...

Re: SyTy old guys

I have been around so long I used Veronica to search for "Typhoon" and found the old list.

That's what I'm talking about. If you remember gopher, you're real old-school.

I found "the list" in about '93 or '94. I found the GN list from a usenet group, which lead me to Ken Mosher, who was on both lists at the time, and he pointed me to Merrill Crosbie, who kept 'the list" manually back then. There were less than a dozen.

We talked every thread to death, like Jim said... there were maybe 1-2 new topics a week.

Kinda miss the old gang... it was like a bunch of guys sitting around having a beer.

I still lurk the board, looking to see if anyone is giving away a Syty in my area ;)

I got on the ISTA list in 97 or so. Thanks for making me feel old.

Re: SyTy old guys

My Dad takes an active interest and he was on the mailing list I believe - he kept a load of emails from when he was researching the car many years ago. It's been in my family for 18 years now :)

Really? Who's your dad?

You guys remember Richard Tomlinson? He was one of our original "old guys".
He was the first overseas guy we came across.

It is an untreatable disease.

How do you think I feel?

I still have copies of the original web site (including images) on floppy someplace...

Re: SyTy old guys

Been around since early '99. I do miss the good old days on the mailing list. It was fun being away for a week or so and having up to 1,000 syty emails to catch up on :)...

Re: SyTy old guys

I remember coming across a couple of sites that were dedicated to SYTY. I can't place the year, but I know I don't date back to the ICQ days. My truck has been in my family since the dealership so I guess I sort of fall into the old guy but not really since I wasn't active on the forum. It says I joined in december of 05, but I am pretty sure I was a member before that under a different name or maybe I just lurked as a guest. I have been a computer guy since birth (my dad was on the commodore 64 engineering team) so I was on the internet from the beginning but I came across the site far enough back that I was astounded that a whole site was dedicated to SYTY. Its been a wild ride for sure.

EDIT: I do remember the mailing list as well. Mike's post above refreshed my memory, because I wouldn't check my email for a while and it would take for ever to download.

Kooch and I started the original Syty website (engr.msu.edu), in around '95 if my fuzzy memory is right.
Then He and Richard moved it to the orignal SyTy.org and updated it a lot.

Re: SyTy old guys

I remember getting out of high school one day and found Jarad Burkardt's sportmachines buisness card on my Ty and was adopted into the sy/ty family . Thanks Jared for stalking me and finding my Typhoon in a high school parking lot of 300 cars and bringing me into the family.

I signed up for the list in December '95 and my first post was March '96. I was so happy when I found that list.

Hey there Fag!!! lol

Funny you should say... There is someone giving away a basketcase Sy in Northern Ohio. The thread even talks about the new owner should be someone with ADD. Its calling your name.

Re: SyTy old guys

I started around the mailing list in 96-97. I lived near Marty so the SyTy bug was being fed regularly. Hung out with Marty, Merk, Jared Burkhardt, and chatted with Mary Klaus regularly as well. Hosted my Great Lake BBQ at my parents house in Naperville, IL (Chicagoland) back in 1997. Ran the "SyTy Classifieds" site before I morphed it into Sportmachines with Marty. I went by Greg Walsh or GregW from Naperville IL back then and had a 1995 S10 ext cab "SS".
Good times, Good Times!

I was WAY into SyTys from about 96 till 1999, then was way into my supercharged S10 Xtreme. till about 2001. Then I rode wheelies down freeways till about 2005, then got back into SyTys in 2006 and bought a clone in 2006, bought a Ty in 2006, bought another Ty in 2007, and here I am... 12 S10s later and old ...well... just old.

My first Great Lakes Gathering was '99. I met up with Greg and Merk and cruised out to Byron. I seem to remember some skinny white kid from California named Sean doing donuts in a Ty with the plates TRBLTY :)
