tach flutter.....

installed the ultimate and got everything running right. but after about 3,000 rpm my tach goes all over the damn place. gets worse with the more i put my foot into it. i did a bunch of searching on here but didnt find exactly what im looking for. im guessing that i should probably change my cap and rotor. any other suggestions or has anyone else had this problem??

Our programming requires your truck to be running damn good before you can really make gains. I am always prescribing some remedies to trucks, and I usually find that the ones that DO have the serious knock issues haven't performed these.

-Fuel filter
-new PCV valves
-top engine cleaner
-fresh plugs
-good cap&rotor
-fresh wires

I also just go over basic Syty mods; 160 thermostat, the small intercooler mods (3/4" hose & hotwired pump). If you still have a knock problem at this point, you need to verify TDC, to be sure your timing is accurate (this should really be done earlier). If still knocking, see if high octane fuel eliminates the knock, to verify it is not false knock.

I had alot of tach flutter but mostly at idle... basic tune up did the trick for me.

i have brand new plugs and plug wires and my motor is brand new with only 2,000 it. But i know that the guy reused the cap and rotor from the old motor. im going to change that out. does anyone have any info or pics of how to do this (easily) .... if there is such a thing on this damn truck.... :evil:
