I test drove a 43Kish miles Typhoon today and had a couple of questions. Since it may be relevant, the weather was about 40 degrees and rainy. After letting it warm up a bit in town, I took it out on the highway where I had planned to gun it for the first time. I had it in D and punched it at about 45 mph. When I did, I heard some noise from the engine. It was louder than a tick, but quieter than a knock from a rod or something major. It made this sound about 5 times in rapid succession before I could let off the gas, as I wasn't expecting to have to let off the gas. There was no noticable power loss. It may have been detonation knock? Obviously, this was a major concern for me so after about a half mile, I dropped the speed down and tried it again. No abnormal sounds at all this time. Or the next 4 times. I wanted to be sure. I think it's been on the lot for a while and they said about all it gets driven is into and out of the garage at night. Would the fact that it is not driven often be a contributing factor at all? It felt very strong and noise free every other time I punched it.
The other thing that seemed odd was that the boost gague pegged itself each time I florred it. Right past the 15psi mark. Now this is the first one I have driven, so I'm not sure how normal this is. No visible mods with the exception of a possible exhaust system as it had an aftermarket exhaust tip. It was raining and I had no desire to crawl under it this time. Is it supposed to get this much boost? The truck felt damn strong.
