TH-200R4

I have been reading a lot about the 700R4 and not being very reliable. But what about the 200R4? They seem to be reliable in the Turbo Buick's, but wondering if it would be a idea to swap in the 200, or if it would be even possible? Just a thought.

Keep up the good work. I have learned SO much about these in the three years I have been on here.

A 200 isnt really cost effective as it has a one piece case which equals no place to bolt the xfer case to. It could be done Im sure but not by someone who doesnt have a money tree in their back yard.

you would have to buy some kind of bellhousing adapter (if they're even available) because its set up for a 60 degree engine not 90. that would be enough to shy me off the idea. i have no idea on their reliability though-

200 RWD trans's are for 90 deg engines. They came in the following cars that all have a 90deg V engine:

GN/Turbo buicks
Monte Carlo SS/CL (G body)
Olds (G body clone)
Pontiacs (G body clone)

The only RWD 60deg engine I know of right off is the 2.8 in the S trucks and those trans's are 700R4s.

I'd imagine it could be done with the right neccessitites. Make sure you get an 86+ out of a GN or Olds 442. Most don't know that the Buick's and Old's had stronger trannies than the rest of the G-bodies and more 8.5 rears. Basically every year in production the Buick's and Old's were eating trannies so they kept adding upgrades and 86 and 87 had vast differences than the Ponchos and Chevy's. 200's aren't very reliable but are still 10 times better than the 700's. If you have the money to build up a 200, you have the money to go with a 4L80. Do that. Propably could find a built 200 for a good price though. Good luck.

I thought that some manufacturer was making plates that could go with any engine combo, like a TH350 on a 360 Mopar, or a C6 behind a 454, etc. I read it in a Hot Rod mag.

Al in all, it sounds like the 200 isn't very cost effective.

Re: TH-200R4

i have been reading posts regarding my 95 rwd S10 soon to have syty motor.

since i have a 4L60E, and i need "electronics" to make it work. i was thinking of doing a 200R4 from a grand national.

i know you guys can't use them cause they cant be converted to awd. but what about my rwd? does the 200R4 use a TV cable like the syty does?

or should i go with the 200R4 and go manual valve body? im really trying to keep the cost of the motor swap down.

does anyone know if the 2800 stall converter in my 4L60E will work in a GN 200R4?

any thoughts would be appreciated.

although i think i should call blake to see about the 200R4. OH isn't that far from NY : (

Re: TH-200R4

I dont really know about the TV cable it will either use that or a vacuum module for the throttle input.

if you decide to go 200 i have a good running and driving one
