The BLITZ dsbc ID boost controller------review

I have an innovative MSBC on the way for the buick but decided to save a couple c-notes and go with the blitz for the sy. SO here is my review if anyone is interested with pros and cons.

Pros::
1) COntrol unit is very small and can be put in a number of places.
2) Solenoids (dual) are in one box so the install is very clean simple and fast (about 30-45 minutes)
3) Has aux imputs for the display that can read intake air temp, throttle position, air/fuel ratio, and some other stuff too. Most of these item ty into the ecm so you will need a pin map but is fairly easy.
4) Boost control on the PTE52 is exceptional, rock solid cap on or off doesnt matter.
5) I can build 12-13lbs off the line now with no probs except traction
6) has 4 different preprogramed setting.
7)) Ramp rate or boost onset is adjustable.
8) is upgradeable to control boost relative to MPH, scaleable
9) boost limiter and warning
10) will graphicaly record runs so you can see what its doin
11) display has built in vac/boost gauge works very well I do prefere analog type stuff though.
12) works in psi, map, metric stuff ya know
13) lines vac and pressure are included in kit.

Cons:
1) instruction were ok not great
2) unit is easy to use once you throw the instructions away
3) Price is $440
4) full auto mode is only available for low boost. I thought low boost was anything under 15psi or so but they say 10. So you have to program it manualy for anything higher but is really easy and something most guys would probably do anyway since you can tune it better.
5) At first thought it wasnt working but soon realized it was the instructions I wasnt understanding or the lack there of.
6) Not made in the US,------------>Japan

Would I buy it again??
Yeah I think so, its pretty cool, I think I will hook it up so it will show intake air temps this weekend.

Would I recommend it to a friend?
Yeah

i have the innovative boost controler for my sy, which is running a PT72, 3 inch downpipe, and ATR Wastegate. i really like it, but its a pain to put in, tons of wiring! the ease of operation is awsome though, and i love digital controls

i also used to have a GReddy Pro-fec B spec boost controller, on the Mitsu turbo upgrade. it was analog, so i found it a little more difficult to dial in the exact boost i wanted. however, it was a also little cheaper, also a little more dangerous to try to dial in while hammering it.

I'd look into the Ramchargers boost commander.

Cheaper than the ANS with better features, but along the same lines of open loop boost control using the stock solenoid.

hum thats really odd on the spikes. Mine is like a rock and guage pressure and the blitz are both dead on. Even with the gain cranked all the way up Ill only get one 2psi spike and thats it. You may have it in auto mode or something.

As for the innovative: I have one on a buick and its been a MAJOR pain in the ass. Humphrey soleniods go out constantly. I sent it in and they said neither solenoid was working and sent me two new ones. Those are great but wtf I drive for fun, not turn wrenches. To elliminate the problem two seiko industrial solenoids were purchased and problem is GONE. I have over $1000 in a boost controller now that only works as good as my blitze

So moral of the story: doesnt matter how good something is or can be someone will have problems....

I'm with you Pittman, the Blitz SBC looks like a nice unit. I'll be ordering mine within the next week or so. The ability to display boost in Psi was the deciding factor for me. BTW, where did you get yours for $440? I haven't seen new ones for under $500 anywhere.

I bought it at the supra store. ITs online I just tried searching my history on IE but it had already deleted it. There is another unit that will work in conjunction that will scale boost for mile per hour. THis is cool if you have a traction problem

I'm bringing this old post back to thank Pittman for the above comment. I installed a new Blitz on the Ty last night and was using auto mode. It would only run gate pressure at 8-9lbs. I was bummed. I read this post this morning and just tried the manual setting. Bam! Rock solid boost! :p I need to play with the settings a little but really like the way it's operating. Yes, the instructions suck though.

I just got my SBCidII yesterday and decided not to buy the Power ID, but I am considering ordering the optional cable for aux data inputs. I'm thinking of using it for displaying IA temps, coolant temps, KR, whatever. Has anyone tapped into the ECU with their Blitz to do this? Can you display the aux input data at the same time as boost or do you have to cycle through the settings? I'm thinking this might be useful for keeping an eye on parameters since most of us don't drive around with laptops on our passenger seats when we're not tuning.
