SyTyless......for now!
After recieving a few PMs about this curiousity, I decided to put the facts in one, convienent place. And I got sick of re-typing it
. Here's the story: After being born in Shreveport like all its siblings, Sy 1301 was delivered to Legend GMC-Toyota in Cedar Falls, IA. From there it was bought by a Daniel Kennedy, who took the truck in for its complementary 3000 mile service on 3/14/92. Things get a little fuzzy from there. Apparently the truck was sold to a Matt Gockel, and during this time the original engine was destroyed. We have a recipt from when the V8 was installed, and the date was 7/1/'96. The engine was installed at Community Motor Co, Inc of Cedar Falls, IA. Mr. Gockel owned the truck untill 1999, when he sold it to an individual named Reilly in Sheboygan Falls. The trucks new owner installed a stereo system, and also put it into the ditch during the winter, causing some cladding damage. (keep in mind, this is with the original tires still on the rims!). Faced with a slightly damaged truck, and owing money to the previous owner, he sold the truck to us on April 23rd, 2005, with roughly 66K on the clock. Now, everyone asks, "how is it compared to a stock truck?" My response: "I don't know". We have never been able to run against a stock truck, nor take it for a 1/4 mile run. One thing is for sure though, it is still quick off the line, and it still has power left even at 115 mph. Another question I get asked is "is it still AWD?" The answer: Yes. The stock transmission, transfer case, propshaft, etc were all retained, even the lockup torque converter. The truck has been lowered from stock, with 3" blocks in the rear and the appropriate torsion bar tweak in the front to achieve a level stance. Currently the truck has 68, xxx miles, and yes, we did put new tires on it
. Being that it is a little different from stock, there are some quirks: the dashboard tach doesnt work, but we have an aftermarket one that we use. The boost gauge is useless, although it does show a constant 10" of vacuum. The torque converter lockup is controlled with a switch on the dash, and in our haste to install a radio ( the high-end unit was taken out before we bought it) we got the basic AM/FM/Cassette without eq. With the exception of some paint flaws, broken cladding, missing decals (apparently the truck had been repainted), and the odd rust spot, it is in great shape. I am probably forgetting some details, but feel free to ask any questions in this thread. Now for the pictures:
that air cleaner element has since been replaced, and some of the stickers have been removed.
Here you can see the tach, as well as the oil pressure and water temp pillar gauges. Yes, the OE oil pressure gauge is spun, like almost every other truck:rotf:
