What timing chain set for balance shaft motor? Clevite, Sealed Power, Cloyes, Mellings??? Prefer U.S. manufacturer...if any. Not revving over 5,500 w/ 130# seat/ 325#open and mild .470 cam lift. Thanks!

How about between PCI and MELLINGS? Anyone try these OEM replacements? For my engine I don't need anything more like a heavy roller chain, the link is actually lighter = better. Any engine builders here?

Dave, thanks for sharing your info. After researching your timing set I have a new revelation just now coming to the light of my feeble mind. The '96 vortec balanceshaft obd2 (what I have) has a link chain without a tensioner. I believe that there were a few other years that also continued to use the link chain, the change was made to the single roller chain in '98 or '99, and then a tensioner was added into the design to quiet chain slap that tickled the knock sensor. Very interesting to me because I can see the newer light single roller design set as a upgrade to earlier link chains however the price is more especially with a tensioner addition, compared to the simple $50 link chain replacement. What was changed in '99-up that seperated the '96-98? The parts books doesn't show the '96-98 as compatible with the chain set you have. I am now really curious to see how to implement the newer design parts on my engine or at least have a conversation about being worth the time and money difference from a $50 link chain. The Cloyes 9-3654X3 Race Billet True Roller Timing Set claims it will work on '92 - '06+ so it must be the tensioner mounting points. The Cloyes is NICE and looks like it weighs a ton, don't need it for my stock motor. The prices would be comparable between the Cloyes monster and the oem roller and I would be getting lightening and roller chain with the oem '99-up design! But that extra $100 over the link chain...hhmmmm?

So how to add a later model chain and tensioner to the early vortec obd2 balanceshaft engines?
