Tire Recommendations

Need advice on what tires to get from the SyTy community.

I have a 93 TY (#194) that I've had for ~20 years and need to replace the Firestone Firehawk SZ50's (245x50ZRx16). Current tires are in good shape, but are way old (bought them in 1998). Yes, I know ... but, I only drove it 10 miles/year for the last 15 years.

I live in South Florida, so I'm OK with summer performance tires. What are folks using these days?

Thanks, in advance!

SZ50's were the best tires I ever had. I have Michelin Pilot super sports on my DD right now and they're awesome. But I just went to Michelin's site and they don't even make a 245/50/16 in any tire, so they're out.

Finding a GOOD performance tire for the stock rims might actually be a pretty tough to do since most "performance" cars have at least 18s now.

Just a quick glance at TireRack.com and all they have for stock rims besides passenger tires, are the Bridgestone G-Force Sport tires which I had on my old DD, and I wasn't a fan. In addition to being loud, they didn't wear well, and the sidewalls are questionable. I split the sidewall pulling into a parking lot. I had to cut the turn a little early and the rear tire hit about midway up the curb... never had a tire pop that easy.

Im running a Nitto NT555 in a 17. My father just got a 19" for his mustang. Looks like they only make them in a drag radial in stock size?

Not sure what your budget is here, I just put on some BFG sport comp 2's last summer, must say that they are impressive...

I prefer super sticky compound.

Something in the -200-300 treadwear. My current tires when warm you can push your finger into like its almost play-doh.

I had some undersized bridge stone direzza and in no time the front outer edge torched off and looked whimpy.

Re: Tire Recommendations

Thanks everybody...I appreciate your advice! And sorry for the delayed response as I got sidetracked by other things. There really isn't much out there for stock sizes on stock rims, which is why I asked what SyTy'ers are doing these days. I'll have to spend more time looking into this when I come up for air.

Interested to hear what people have found. I'll need new tires on the stock rims this year as well.

Re: Tire Recommendations

I had Riken Raptors ZR on my ty when I first got it. They were hard and cracked in 2 years. Theyre 10 and still hold air barely. I would try running a Hankook Ventus v2. I have the v4s on another car and I like them.
