Tired out syclone

Hows it going everyone? I just got around to registering but I have had my sy for about 3 years now. Its a good running truck with about 72,000 miles on it. I havnt had any major problems with it but I believe it is getting allittle tired and worn out. It has the original motor and drivetrain but everything still feels pretty tight. It will still jump out of the hole and roast pretty much any mustang around here but I can feel the age taking its toll. In the near futur I plan on freshening it up a bit. I dont realy have the money to tear into the motor but I would like to replce the basic stuff like plugs, wires ect. I do plan on going with a bigger turbo setup and all the things that go with that. There is a garage up the street from me owned by Billy Anderson and He has some of the fastest GNs around. I just wanted to get some suggestions from you guys on combos to go with. I am looking to get down to low to mid twelves. I am going to the track this weekend for the first time with the sy to get a baseline of what it is doing now. I think about or around 14s. Thanks for reading my long post but I wanted to get that out front because this will probably be fallowed with a whole lot more newbi questions. These motors seem pretty complicated to me. Also I have a couple of decent kills to ad in the KILLS forum.

Getting a baseline is great but I would get a tune up before going. Especially if it has not been done in a while. Upgrades? Check with Billy Anderson and see what he suggests. I've heard good things about him.

Hi!

I'm currently just a troll in the background always browsing the FS threads. But I'm not too far away fro you or from hopefully owning a Ty (please buy my Supra! LOL). I just wanted to warn you in casew you didn't know that MIR is going to be VERY busy this weekend, they are having a NOPI event, so track time will be nil. Just wanted to give you a heads up that multiple runs may be a bit difficult and expensive! I think next week (Sunday) the normal T&T rates apply again.

We are going to cecil county raceway so I hope it wont be to bad. I am also kind of hesitant on running it at the track but I ran it hard on the road a couple of times latly and it wasnt to bad. No bad misses or noises other than the loud tapping I was told it was the injectors. It will hesitate allitle bit on take off and stall every once in a while. It dose cut out at wot around 95 mph but I f i get out of it then back in it it will keep on going to the 126 cut off. I think it could be starving for fuel on top end. :banghead: If it blows it blows. That will give me a reason for a rebuild.

WAY off topic here but ya know...the dragva.com board is on my top 5 list of sites populated by retards. Is there anyone on that site that is older than 15, has more of an IQ than a turnip, or maybe both? No wonder youre looking for a syty.

Sorry, had to throw that in there and now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

i would not do a turbo upgrade without freshing up the motor with 70+k on it. mid 12s should be easy in a sy with the right chip and tuning. "stock turbo" go witht he ultimate on t3 20-22 and run datamaster to get it dialed in and mid 12s should be no problem if it is running right. "sy/ty running right-key words"

I was under the impression that the stock turbo was not very useful past 17 or 18psi. I have been taking a long hard look at the ultimate chip. I know I have to get a 3 bar map sensor but will I have to get a boost controler also? These trucks seem like a tuning nightmare.

they are a bitch to tune but well worth it when running right. the ultimate is a boost controller all in one with many other great features..with this chip some tunning and a surflow pump i was able to hit 13.1x back to back without locking the convertor, with it locked i would have hit 12s or real low 13.0s. pretty good for a ty with 70k on it..

everyone says something different about how good the stock turbo is and what its limits are but i can say up to 22 psi i got gains after 22 i did not see any gains. mph slowed a bit. but 20-22 i can say for sure, running right, with the right gas you will see improvments.

i dont remeber his name but on stock turbo and alky he isin the low 12s maybe even hit 11s. now it took him some time to do this and i am sure he has many hours of tunning in but that is some great times for stock stuff.plus if you do a turbo it WILL kill your motor, just depends on how long. i wish i never upgraded. it was not the turbos fault but mine own fault, but the turbo made me want to drive like i was when it broke. oh well at least now i had an excuse to do everything you see in my sig...

You're on GB?

Yeah, Drag can be a PITA, but I have been there a while and have a network of friends that are good...I admit there are VERY few and far between. I won't jack this thread anymore about it, but I will say I would LOVE to see some SyTy locals on Garagebattle!

Thanks for your input raist 103. I have a good idea what Im going to do now. I am going to get the ultimate chip, new intercooler pump because its probably not working anyway, bigger fuel pump and regulator, and a big trans cooler. I would like to run a bigger down pipe but not sure if it will make a difference with the stock turbo. Is it possible to convert to a external waste gate with the stock turbo? I have had problems in the past with over boosting. Also what type of scan tool do you recomend? I just want to take it somewhere and have somebody tune it for me but I guess the only way to learn is to do it myself. One more thing I was thinking about a blow off valve too. I know they do not benifit much on a automatic but I think they soud cool. Not only that the surging noise I hear when I let off the throttle when its in the boost cant be good for the turbo. Dose anybody sell a turbo to intercooler pipe that has a bov flange on it?

as for the blow of valve i think there is a guy on ebay that sells the uppipe to the turbo in steel and is normaly about 50, just weld on one there or go to the crossover and weld one there, i dont realy see the point by the time you are done you will probably spend 150-250 and get no gains just sounds.. i would put it to the scan tool. i use datamaster as do most people but there are others. i dont know the site but you can get datamster for maybe 100 and cable for maybe 90, can not remember that either. anyway do a search and both will come up a thousand times..

the mods you listed "other the bov  " lol will get you to your goals with some time behind the seat and some tuning. i would also change the stock ic lines to rubber as it seems to keep the ic alittle cooler. there is many ways to do this just search and look at pics to see what way you like best. i like the fender route best altough i did it around the back of the intake and down the ds fender. "easier". as for the external wastegate i dont think you will have any problems with over boosting as long as 1. you still have the cat. 2.replace all the vacum lines. 3. buy a new solenoid. gm has them for 12..

i think i have a number of a guy who sells new walbro 355 pump for 100 or 110. he is the guy i got 2 for my gn and the 1 in the ty. i will pm you if i find his number..
