Exhaust shop in Austin? Damn! You would be my pal if I still lived in San Antonio. Welcome to the fold. Dont fret too much. If the previous owner didn't hose you, your truck would anyway, so just take it like a man. 7000 isnt too bad depending.

yeah, $7000 and i'm leaving out a few mods from the list. there is more. that list was off the top of my head.

Damn, it is a good thing you have a lift to help out with any future issues. I used a local guy from Ammco (Rick) on Burnet RD. He built a couple of trannys w/ kits I got from Prime Gears. You could stop by over there & tell him Bruce referred you. He is very honest about what the tranny can hold. I wish I had more time to hang out w/ my local syty buddies but becoming a new father takes up all of my available time.

rick. skinny guy. could live off all the side werk he does from what i hear. had a big block raced out cutlass as a daily driver. think he drives nothing but big blocks.

I'm here in Austin as well... (Curious though as to why it's "sorry-@ss" for you?) Regardless, welcome aboard!

As others alluded, it IS a love-hate relationship that you just entered into w/ your truck. Highs beat the lows though IMO. Not much else like a boosted launch in one of these when they're running right. Lean on this board 1st & 95% of the time you'll get the help you need.

There are quite a few of us local that would be happy to meet up, check out the truck & poss. make you feel better about your purchase. ;-)

all my ex's live in texas sort of thing.

That would be him... He also builds a lot of the high-HP Supra guys' TH400's. But re: our 700's, Bruce has had him build 2 now & both have held up to a fair amount of abuse.

And he used to beat the sh!t out of that Cutlass down Burnet Rd. every time he left the shop. He's definitely an interesting character.

Re: your ex's in TX, understood! ;-)

$7000 for a running Ty is reasonable I think. I paid $6500 for mine with the engine out and completely disassembled. :banghead: I could have bought a running truck for that much money, so in the beginning I felt like a real dumbass!! But after looking through all the receipts for upgraded parts form the previous owner I realized that he didn't even break even on parts that he bought for it. So, the way I look at it now is that I bought alot of high dollar parts and got a Ty for free.

Re: to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

Dont feel bad. I found my Syclone in mint condition with 38k miles on it. I paid 12k for it and I still have issues all the time. Its a major money hole but it sure is fun. No matter what sy ty you buy its going to have problems eventually. The modifications you have on your ty were worth the money. You just need to get some TLC work done and you will see that thing turn into a beast before your eyes. Relax, be patient, do things right and you will never look back with regret.

Re: to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

Get anything done on it?

full tune-up except wires~rebuilt the transmission with denali internals~tried the march 3-piece pulley set but noticed no difference except voltage drop, so i went back to stock~cleaned up engine bay and painted fmic. got tired of people staring at the grill (fmic). so all in all, not much. trying to werk out some kinks with the help of "nice big cup of shut the **** up" aka syclone#2960 who happened to put up some pics of MY ty a few hours ago.(2 posts below on #55) you can make out the blacked out grill aka fmic.

Leave it to me to join the conversation 4 months later:lol: You bought this truck from Terry who IS a member here named STiffler. If I am wrong disregard. He bought the truck from Rob who was also a member here, RSPENGLER. I tried to help Rob out a few times but he didn't seem to have much drive or money for it. He was a DSM guy and had a hard time doing what he did to the truck just to run low 14's high 13's. He had a big problem trying to get i t to stop knocking when I met him and am not sure what the problem ever was. He re-built that motor I believe Vortec heads. I could be VERY wrong there. The ALT adjuster is not aftermarket but a Home Depot special. I tried to talk him in to going with the type I made but refused as it cost too much. Terry I met when he bought SY1616. He came over and knew shit about the truck. I tried to offer him a ton of help but he seemed like he'd rather have Meineke do the work or something. Everything that was wrong with the SY I would tell him and he would make another assumption because he owned a GN:roll: His heart was definitely not in it. Well, he sold 1616 and bought Rob's TY. I didn't even bother with the guy. He seemed kind of like a dupe at that point. Had you gotten in touch with me before you bought I would have said to leave it alone. It comes from a nice line of in experienced owners and looked to be fairly rigged to me. No offense to the actual owners, just what it was.

Re: to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

you should get rid of those cheap hose clamps on the boosted side...they will cause your hoses to pop off quickly!

Good luck! Once you get the truck running well, you'll be hooked again! Should just call these trucks 'CRACK'

wow good to know a little more about the truck & prev owner. We tried running a DM run and noticed Nick was only getting 81% throttle at WOT. I thought it was the TV cable preventing the remaining 19%. So I checked under the hood and sure enough the tv cables was real tight and stopping the throttle cable from extending all the way. So I reset the TV cable and got a couple of clicks out of it. We then plugged in the scan tool to get a TPS reading and still only got 81%. A little more investigating and discovered the throttle cable had too much slack. It appears as if the throttle cable had been busted at the floor pedal from previous owner. It was missing the original stud/ball that locks the cable in place. We compared it to my typhoon & seemed to be missing some hardware. Nick tried fixing it w/ no luck.
As he was driving off he noticed the tranny was shifting much harder than before. He came back and I tried readjusting the TV cable to make it softer w/ no luck. Is the TV cable bad??? It seems as if the the wire itself will not go back into the black sleeve. As if it has been stretched or something. This is what I get for trying to help a fellow member.:(
Nick's computer is down so he is having to use his cell to check back. I'm on my way to his shop to try and figure out how to fix the shifting problem. I will have my PC w/ me to check back on any suggestions you guys might have.
