Re: To trailer or not to trailer that is the ?

I'm towing mine but i know my truck can handle it no problem. I wouldn't worry much about a 4 door tahoe/yukon towing a truck to nats. My dad tows for his shop almost every weekend with his tahoe z71, some from georgia, montana, wyoming. Has never had a single engine/trans issue, just chews threw brakes pads kinda fast.

I'll be trailoring the SY to the nats. i dunno if it will be on a flat bed trailor or if i can borrow my buddies enclosed trialor.

My last long road trip in the sy ended up killing the alt.belt and i broke the tensioner installing the new stuff on then it decided it didn't want to crank neededa new relay for the fuel pump

Re: To trailer or not to trailer that is the ?

Where are all these trailers and tow-cars going to be parked?????

The host hotel parking lot is going to fill up quickly with tow cars and trailers. Especially if people start parking across the spots length-wise. Parked this way, one rig uses 7-8 spaces. So after the first 8-10 guys get there, where are the rest of the peeps going to park?

Someone needs to lay down guidlines for tow-car and trailer parking. There should be a specific area for Featured Trucks (Syclones, Typhoons, and Sonoma GTs). Everything else should get parked somewhere else. Not on the 'show field'.

if we have a lot of trailers/tow vehicles show up...we have local help with plenty of off-site (within minutes) storage for trailers.

this is the last thing that should possibly inhibit someone from coming  we've tried to cover all the possible bases. If there are any other possible concerns...please raise them. It'll help make sure we've thought of as much as possible!

There is a parking lot ~2-300 ft from the main hotel parking lot just for this. Basically there are 3-4 hotels and they share an overflow parking lot which I was told we could use for trailers, etc.

I promise its a safe area also.

OK guys

When the GS/GN nats are in bg most of the guys that are trailering there rigs there most of them park and leave the car/trailer at the race track and drive the tow rig or there gn's.

I plan on towing my sy there and leaving my silvarado and the trailer at the race track and drive the sy back and forth to the hotel and whatever running i need to do.

guys there is a shitload more trailers with the gs/gn crowd that the sy/ty so don't worry it will all work out

GN guys have 4 days of racing also, we only have 1 day. We have room at the hotel its not a problem, just won't be 10ft from your hotel door.

Re: To trailer or not to trailer that is the ?

I’ve been missing racing at the National the last few time I’ve gone. I haven’t raced since the 2002 Nationals in Chicago.
My truck has had quite a few runs put on her and I have a feeling something’s going to break.

This year my family will be with me and we may extend our vacation after the Nationals.

The one thing I love about our trucks is you drive to the track. Make some kick ass passes and then drive home.

This is all leading up to that this year I may trailer my TY so I can race. If it breaks I load her up and we can continue our vacation with no worries.

Will my SYTY brethren feel less about me if the Typhoon comes in on a trailer?:D

I've trailered every year. With the reliability of these things and the fact that most people want to make a good pass, it's even money that something will bust.

I'll have family along as well, and our vacation will go a week past Nats. If I had to worry about whether or not the beast would make it back, no way would that happen.

A good trailer is peace of mind, over and above the great SyTy peeps that will bend over backwards to fix a guy's broken rig.

+1 for trailering.

I originally planned on driving the Ty down there and back....

I will be towing it out there so I dont have to worry about how I get back home.

I been debating what to do myself, tow it or not go at all. I really want to go but the distance is what i am worried about. My wife and kids want to come and i dont think a 2yr and a 4 yr are going to love a 14 hour drive ONE WAY. Is anyone else doing this with young kids and driving more then 10 hours????????

Re: To trailer or not to trailer that is the ?

I have owned my AWD Ty since 1993 and my TT Ty for the last couple of years. Through out the years many syty'ers condemmed the use of trailering our trucks so I never, never never, ever trailered mine and think anyone who trailers their trucks because they think they will break down either has no confidence in our trucks are are not mechanicly good enough to own these trucks to be able to drive them anywhere, anytime.

If you own em...drive em!!! That's the only to roll.

Wade, you should be ashamed to even think of trailering your Ty!

John I don't think either one of your trucks can make a single pass at BG, maybe in the pits but not down the track.

I dare you, hell double dog dare you to make just 1 pass.

Don't be bragging about the trans during sat morning's breakfast though.

Re: To trailer or not to trailer that is the ?

Hope to see you at the Nationals this year John... without a trailer.:)

Like that will happen....me without a trailer. For those that don't know, I purchased my first Ty in 1993 and put on a few thousand miles that year chasing the car audio circuit. The following year I purchased an enclosed trailer. I didn't purchase the trailer so much to make a trailer queen out of the Ty, it was mainly that I had other stuff to haul around ie; displays, popup tents, extra aduio equipment, chargers, etc.

The good thing that came out owning a trailer was the fact that 15 years later I have a very clean original paint, eat off the underside chassis and frame and very low miles. I doubt if it as seen rain more than a dozen times. I am glad it was a trailer queen as now I can still enjoy a new ride feel even if it does feel somewhat faster than when new.

I still enjoy driving it on Friday and Saturday nights and trailer it to some car shows each year. I have not raced it for a couple years, but it's probably time to make a couple of runs again.

Wade, trailer your Ty. It will make your trip less stressful even if nothing breaks. You have a solid truck and nothing is going to happen anyway. I hope to see you there, but my summer is still up in the air to know for sure. Detroit in June?

I got a 5 yr old that won't sit still, and she's going.

2 is a bit tougher, but it's been done. Just plan on making extra stops.

Seatback video screens keep 'em busy.

Light weights.

My daughter has made several trips

~3-4yrs old 18hrs in a car seat NON STOP (well a piss here or there, quick bite for food)
~4yrs old Louisville to NJ non stop, then back with 1 stop. Had kellers with me and their oldest also, both kids did great.
~4 yrs old, louisville to salt lake city and back
~7 Louisville to san antonio and back, 2 days there, straight through on way back.
~6 Louisville to Orlando and back
~7 Louisville to Baltimore non stop, next day from Washington DC back to home.
8 Seattle to Cali non stop, then the return trip non stop.
Contless 8 hr trips to seattle via airplane and back.

If I mention the word "Road Trip" she gets a big smile, grabs her things and is in the car before I can even say "just kidding".

My son so far and he is only 1.

Louisville to Jacksonville florida and back non stop, he was 10 months old. 1600 miles.
Been on airplane to jacksonville and back
Airplane to seattle and back both as lap child.

I break them in early. I know I am missing some trips with my daughter somewhere.
