WTF??:rotf:

General Motors has proven to the world that it has the engineering talent and chutzpah to challenge the best automakers around when it comes to supercars. In fact, The General can make just about anything go really fast, a fact proven first in 1991 with the GMC Syclone pickup truck and its follow-up, the equally amazing GMC Typhoon SUV. That's right, GMC dropped an awe-inspiring turbocharged and intercooled 4.3L V6 engine between the flexible frame rails of its compact pickup truck and body-on-frame SUV. All-wheel-drive was thrown in for good measure and the four-speed automatic transmission borrowed from the Corvette made bracket racing the SyTy duo an extremely attractive propsect. At first, the idea of a Corvette-trouncing supercar in plain-Jane trappings makes some sense, but that theory fails to hold water. Despite the practical body style, neither of these vehicles was useful as a means of hauling goods, saddled as they were with a ridiculously low cargo weight rating thanks to their complicated suspensions. No matter, SyTy: We still love you and you'll always have a spot reserved in our fantasy garages.

They are bitching because of load capacity? Morons...

Dangit, I was just about to post this article up. mhty325 beat me to it. I'm a regular autoblog reader and had a gut feeling syty's would make the list. Yup, #1 vehicle that doesn't deserve its engine! They were actually pretty nice about it compared to some of the other vehicles' descriptions.

First time I've heard of the Saab 9-7x Aero. When I bought my Envoy, I tried to get the wife to get a 9-7, but she thinks Saabs are owned by weird people, just because she has a weird aunt and uncle that both drive Saabs. I like the look of the 9-7x Aero a lot, but too bad it's a ton more expensive than a TBSS.

Heh, I see that the Ford SHO was number 5 . That is the only Ford that I ever really considered owning since it was a "Yamahauler". My older brother was dumbfounded when I told him that I may buy a blue oval. He knew that it had to be something special... He went on to buy two himself and I never got one.

My Ford fan coworker told me that during the endurance tests on the engine dyno, they ran it wide open in an attempt to blown it. However, they gave up after several hours because they got tired of listening to it scream on the dyno at 8,000 plus RPM. My bud has owned several and on the highway, it would give a stock syty a run for the money.

I've had 2 SHOs. Too bad the trannys were junk. They were fun to sneak up on people in. They didnt knock the Typhoon too bad in the article.

Yep, it talked about the flexible frame rails, but neglected the flexible bottom end and the flexible stock rims.

Wow, I just realized that I own or have owned about .025% of the total production of the #1choice and .4% of the runner up.

I currently own two of those vehicles. My DD is a Marauder. Yes, off the line it is SLOW, but once above 2000 RPM, it moves pretty good for a damn road barge. I think I am going to try and sell it in the spring though. I had a SHO for about six months, but it was a major POS besides the engine, always broke.

I always thought SyTys deserved a better engine than our thrown together turbo 4.3.:dunno:
