Tranny disengages when off throttle?

Tranny disengages when off throttle?
When I'm in "D" drive (not OD) going any MPH and I let off the throttle the tranny dis-engages,

then when I give it throttle it re-engages, the just started a few days ago.

this does it in 1,2,3 but not OD.

Before if I let off the throttle the engine would slow the truck, not anymore

but when its in OD it stays engaged after I let off the throttle,

I've already adjusted the TV cable and it did not make any difference.

I had the tranny rebuilt in August 2005, with all the good stuff.

I've put about 12k miles on it since rebuild.

and a 2800- 9.5" muli-disc converter.

ANY IDEAS?

so basically it is free wheeling as if you were driving a manual and pushed in the clutch?
I remember reading a thread a little while back about a similar condition and they said that the over run clutches were bad or something else along those lines broke. Hopefully jwaller or alike will help you with this i am sure they know

Re: Tranny disengages when off throttle?

Just a followup on this, This is what caused the problem
part of the sprag assembly broke.. appears the stock case/retainer that holds all the upgraded parts failed, and stripped all the gears on the imput shaft

Even with the spag assembly broekn it still shifted fine in all gears and reverse worked.???
But had to get new spag assembly and have whole unit rebuilt.

glad to see you got it fixed and thanks for letting us know what it was. for some reason I never saw this thread when you posted or I woulda said something. did you happen to use the new late model sprage with 1 piece sun gear?

Re: Tranny disengages when off throttle?

You either burnt the clutches, stipped the overrun clutch hub, or blew the seal(s) off the piston.

:D I saw the other post now. That piece is the hub. If it ever happens again, let me know. I've got a fix for it.

Hmmmm...... That sounds way too familiar! My trans is doing the same thing, almost to the T! Guess it's time to start saving for a new trans. :(

Mine too, it's been doing that for around 30-40k miles now......but it still shifts hard, etc.

Saving my :2cents:'s for for a tranny rebuild.

You can drive it a LONG time with that messed up. What will happen eventually is long delays from reverse to drive. Slipping at any significant throttle, etc. Just baby it and change the fluid a little more often. Don't beat on it.
