Just pulled the tranny to replace the rear main.

While its out would any of you have it rebuilt?

Truck is totally stock. 43k original miles. 3rd owner so I dont really know how much track time if any its had. Ran perfect so I am thinking "if it aint broke, dont fix it" but wants thoughts since i wrestled the damn thing out.

thanks

That's a lot of money to spend if it isn't broken. :2cents: I would check the pan and fluid and go from there.

Fluid & pan look good. no signs of excessive metal or burned tranny fluid.

was just thinking preventitve measures

Re: Trans rebuild opinions

if youre gonna do anything, just replace the front pump seal, its like $5 at auto parts stores, while you have it out, it couldnt hurt.

Otherwise Id wait until it broke.

What are your plans for Syclone? I am pulling out my perfectly fine original 50K Sy transmission, but I know that it won't hold up to the power that I am going to be making. I would probably blow it up withina 1000 miles once my truck is up and running again.

Re: Trans rebuild opinions

thanks all. the pump seal sounds like a good idea.

truck will remain stock so it was more about not wanting to EVER pull it out again solo.

Re: Trans rebuild opinions

if it's not broken don't fix it! if you plan on doing major performance mods then maybe but if you're leaving it stock slap it back in. It will cost you close to 2k for a good rebuild otherwise....

Re: Trans rebuild opinions

leave it alone, put a pan on it,filter change etc,ALWAYS change the front seal anytime you take a trans out!!
