Transfer case leaking

No this is not another topic on how to fix a leaking transfer case.
The real question is why does fluid not leak out between the two halves when sitting, but starts to leak when I drive around. After you pull in the driveway there are drops right away. You wipe the dripping fluid off the case and park. The next day there are no drips on the floor. Is there some sort of pressure in the case causing the fluid to push between the two halves? This does not compute in my head. A leak should be a leak unless there is pressure building up to force it out when driving. Thanks for your reply in advance.

Re: Transfer case leaking

I'm sure Davep will chime in here... But it's the adapter gasket... You can only get them from gm... Stuff doesn't last forever.... I think it leaks due to fluid just sitting vs being moved around by the innards of the transfer case.

There is a breather tube on top of the t-case. I would check that first to make sure it's not kinked Or plugged.

Re: Transfer case leaking

Warmer fluid is less viscous so is more likely to leak. Have you got the correct fluid in it?

The gasket thing I am fairly sure is irrelevant - mine has never been opened from the dealer and was without a gasket when I disassembled it. It never leaked. It was all RTV or something similar.

Might be worth going round the casing and tightening up all the bolts on it - has it been apart in the past?
