Re: transmission help

sounds like it was slipping, and now the low-rev clutch pack has welded itself together.

Is neutral going forward too? does park now allow the RPM's to come up like they should when you tap the gas?

Sounds like its time for another rebuild, just dont have it done by whoever did it before.

Check your TV cable is adjusted right. Can't tell you how essential this is, like many, I found out the hard way!

Put a jack under the trans and remove the x-member. Get the rest of the bolts out, then drop the jack slowly and the trans will also drop too. Dont go crazy since you'll be stressing the motor mounts. From there, it will give you a bit more room to see. Get some really long extensions and go to work.

no, whoever built it last time was the cause of it, and/or the TV cable was not adjusted properly 2 years ago when it was installed at that time.

Either way it will need a rebuild and regardless of the torque converter being good or bad, it will either need to be replaced also or at least sent out to be rebuilt or at least cleaned of all the contaminants that are not floating around inside of it, just like they were inside your pan.

At least in my experience, it costs almost as much to have the converter serviced as it does to get a new one, so if its a stock type converter, I suggest upgrading. If its something special, then I guess send it out.

Re: transmission help

You need to let someone that knows syty builds to do the trans or you will be fixing it again

Re: transmission help

Good video.

In addition to that, many trans builders suggest keeping two fingers on the nose of the adjustment slider when you open the throttle body. This prevents the cable from coming out too far. Also remember that you can manually adjust it in or out a click based on how it shifts after its in the "ballpark".

Re: transmission help

Just make sure its not J.Waller that does your rebuild. To the OP, call RPM transmissions. They are the best. Good Luck

Sorry man, i have to stand up for Waller.i have 2 transmissions of him and they still work fine.
1 truck is in the 10's with traction (11.3 with poor 1.86 60ft) and the other one was daily driven with the same build.
so he prolly knows something and maybe he had bad luck with people going budget and not knowing what causes a transmission failure.

otherwise OP, i don't know but have you checked your shifter cable? can't imagine it would cause the problem, but might be good to check before spending money on it

Re: transmission help

Well I broke the front prop shaft. Replacing it is the easy part. It looks like I need the bracket that holds the shift cable, may even need the shift cable, don't know yet. Any Ideas on where I can get a shift cable bracket. A broken props haft can do a lot of damage and it did. Is the a bracket that will work without too much reworking? Thanks.
