truck falls flat after boost

my truck has been laid up for a number of year, 8 actually and was finally able to get it up and running a few weekends ago. the problem that i have now is when the truck starts to build boost via my autometer gauge, it starts sputtering and slightly backfiring. the truck is pretty stock with only a kenne bell cold air intake, ultimate chip, a walbro fuel pump and atr cat back exhaust. i have an exhaust dump that i had opened just in case the cat was clogged or something of that nature. the steps taken so far are filled fuel tank with fresh 93 octane gasoline and a bottle of seafoam, replaced fuel filter, cap and rotor and new ngk ur5 plugs gapped at .035. none of these items seem to have made any difference. i also checked the vacuum lines to the map sensor as that come up a lot with drivability posts. i have no check engine light at all. a friend of mine has a fuel pressure gauge and we are going to check that this weekend. i don't have datamaster so i can't get any logging to help with the issue. any other things to check or other suggestions? any help would be appreciated.

Got Datamaster?

Is the timing right? What fuel pressure you running? What chip? What injectors?

Are you sure it's mostly stock?

Answer all that and then I'll ask you some more questions.

BTW paragraphs are pretty cool.

I'm betting an eight year old fuel pump is the culprit. Don't run it in boost anymore you could go lean and blow the engine. Get the fuel pressure checked then start on the other likely problems.

Correct i had this also with my truck after sitting for a few years
you can also give the injectors a good clean up ..

If its stock you might be over boosting. Check all vac lines and the boost solenoid.

I had a very similar issue with my truck recently. I checked all the same things you've checked, including the vacuum lines, many, many times. Until I actually replaced the vacuum lines, my problem persisted. If yours are stock, I'd start there. You're going to have to do it eventually anyway. After that, fuel pump and injectors.

Hey AndrewB I'm flying into Milwaukee tomorrow 5-19-13 and driving down to ocnomowac. I can take my datamaster with me and my cord and meet up with you to see what your truck is doing. Let me know. Pm me if you want. I fly in at 1:00pm and will check my messages before I leave the airport in my rental car.

Code what?
I'd double check your plug wires. Most overlooked cause of misfires. A boot may not be on all the way or one is bad and arching through.

Had that problem twice! Once was the fuel pump was bad! Started and ran but in boost it would fall flat, other time was the turbo?, i found the boost sensor vaccum line was melted! Start there i also know the stock turbos arent that good and the fins brake too!

Whats your boost gauge reading before it goes flat?
