Truck not starting after sitting for 1 year

Like title says my truck has not moved in over a year cause the tranny went out on it but i have started it up every now and then when I have come home from college anyway i haven't started it in probably 4 months or so and now it won't fire at all. It cranks fine, i hear the fuel pump kick on when i turn the ignition to the on position, the ecm fuses are good. I have not done anything to it since i last started it. Is the fuel just bad after sitting for a year? Or should i look more closely if it is getting fuel/spark.

do you hear the fuel pump?
have u tried to jump the relay for the fp?
have you been able or are you able to add more fuel to the tank?
how much gas is in the tank?
is your coil wire plugged in? hehe
try checking a plug to see if its getting spark.

When mine sat for 6 months It wouldn't start up.. it would crank good and I could hear the walbro kick on when turning the key to the on position but it wouldn't start.. switched the fuel pump relay with the ac relay (there the two above the brake booster) and it fired right up.. Figured i'd mention it since it worked for me and it only took about ten seconds of my life.

Re: Truck not starting after sitting for 1 year

I say a bad ignition module. If it is bad, it won't generate a reference pulse preventing the injectors from firing. Pulling one of your plugs after cranking will confirm this. Part number is 1048-2827 (located under your distributor cap, BTW). I had to replace mine in my truck after it sat for over two years.

I wouldn't suspect the gas unless the truck has been stored with a tank that is close to empty. Storing a vehicle in such a situation allows more condensation to form in the tank during temperature changes... I didn't beat on my truck after I got it back on the road and I never experienced any knock with that two year gas while I ran it out.

thats what happened to mine after it sat for about 8 months. module went bad and no fire. took about an hour of chasing the problem but thats what it was. new one in and she fired right up

i had just replaced the ignition module a couple years ago could it be it again? you talking about the jumper on the passenger side where you just ground the wire to the firewall. Another thing is I got RPM's billet fuel rail what does it take to hook up a pressure gauge on them some AN plumbing.

couple years is still a couple years, some things are notorious for going bad when they sit

Most parts stores can bench test the module for you.

yeah ryan i am still looking for a trans, things are obivously going very slowly for me as i never see my typhoon, i now have a house in manhattan, ks and my ty sits at my parents house 2 hours away. I am slowly saving money for a tranny, if i remember right your tranny was setup for a non lock up converter but otherwise was a stout built 700 before you decided try out an 80e, What all would be required/cost to build it for a lock up converter? Anyway i was only home for christmas and never had anytime other than hook up a battery charger and crank the ty over with no results hopefully i can stockpile some cash and put some time back into the ty once summer hits.

I tried swapping the ignition module with an old one I had laying around but it didn't start either I don't know if they are both bad or there is another problem I'll try and take the one i had on there before to the parts store to benchtest but what if it is good? ECM issue?

after mine sat for six months i had the same problem turned out to be the fuel pump, it would run but only put out 10 psi

Re: Truck not starting after sitting for 1 year

I had a different problem. The hose between the pump and pickup rotted away and even though the pump would turn on it would squirt fuel out the hose before it left the tank. Had to replace the hose and it runs fine now.

I getting fuel I am just not getting any spark from the coil. I tested the ignition module at O'Reilys Auto and it tested good 3 times. I am going to be away from the truck for another 3 weeks so post away ideas for me to try when I get the opportunity to play with it and thanks for the tips thus far and in the future.

Pick up coil in the distributor. Measure between white and green wires, disconnected from module. 500 to 1500 ohms.
Missed your post before i replied earlier, but this sounds like a logical place to start looking at. Thanks any other thoughts?
