Is that a Chevelle in the back?
It is a 66 el camino, my first love are classics but I have always wanted a typhoon. Like everything I have 5 el camino's and now 3 typhoons, a couple impalas and a couple chevelles and so on. When I like something I tend to really like them and then find something else to go over board on. But I never seem to sell much  .

And yes I was talking about the wing on the back window. I always thought they were a factory deal. Learn something new everyday I guess.
But I do know they are effective I dismantled a blazer to roll the body around on. The body mounts rockers, lower quarters were all trash but above the rear window was perfect and the other blazers I and my father have none have rust there.

Thanks for the comments
Jim

Did you just win the lottery or something?

No, I am very fortunate to have parents that don't charge rent a girlfriend who like cars almost as much as me, and I am to lazy to spend my money else were. :rotf: .
But I do have a few great sponsors that help a lot and I have sold a fews vehicles to fund the project.

But if you would like to buy some for me thats cool I am always accepting donations :) .

The cladding seems to protect the rocker and quarters compared to regular S-series.

I would but I never go inside to pay for my gas. But I will send you some kind wishes instead  .

I have noticed that to and I think since most of the stiff comes up from the ground in the rear that since there is a roll pan instead of a bumper more stuff is allowed to get up top. But yeah on a typhoon no wing look to good to put one on.

Re: TTTyphoon

Very cool.. Where are you getting the bars, bushings, and hardware that your using for the 4-link? Also, what spring rate did you go with on the rear coil-overs?

Happy holidays!!

The bars are 1 1/4" .025 wall tube. The rear are all 3/4" hiem joints I acctually bought off a gentlemen on e-bay. They were around 120 dollars for the set. For the bushings on the diff I bought a rear rebuild kit for an el camino. I will use the rest of the kit on one of the elks.

And the hardware is all grade 8 from fastenal.
I will have to check on the spring rate i got them through e-rue at turbotime. he was great to deal with and he helped get me the coilovers I needed.

EDIT: It is 1 1/4" .120 wall tube not .025 wall. I was typing fast then I was thinking

Re: TTTyphoon

I keep getting a weird feeling when looking at the axle notches you've cut in... do you have plans to reinforce that area some more?

(Maybe I missed that part in the whole build layout)

I'm just thinking with the kind of power you'll be putting down, that seems like a potential weak spot. Welding an arched piece of tubing in there would give you a bit better strength.

Looks quite well thought out overall. What are you using for reference points for front/rear driveline layout?

Yeah the notch is recieving some reinforcement. We are laying a piece of 3/8" plate above the notch against the outer frame rail. Also there will be triangular gussets on each corner of the notch.

we are also basing the driveline placement off of stock to keep the wheels in the correct postion in the wheel well. Also the rear will have a slight pinion angle change set since the truck is much lower then stock and will have about a 5-6 inch ride height.
Thanks and hopefully I will get my control arms for it soon so I can start to finish the front.

thanks and probably have an update on the body tonight.

What are you hoping to gain with that notch? The stock bump-stops are functional.. If you let the axle ride up any higher the tires will come in contact with the cladding..

Are you re-working the cladding and/or wheel offset to allow the rear wheels to travel up further?

Thanks,
-Matt

It is more to recess the bump stop. And yes the rear cladding is going to be modified slightly. As well as the wheels are going to be in a little from stock.

as for today we have the new rear seats mounted up the roof fixed and the wiper cowl shaved. So now a skim coat of filler and my favorite part SANDiNG

I will get some pictures up in the morning.

Re: TTTyphoon

Well I am slow on the update but here it is now anyway.

We got the rear end set in place for the final time. Had to shorten the lower link bars. But now the bars are fully welded, the upper mounts are in and welded up. We installed the gusset on the upper rear shock mount and check for clearence on the girdled diff cover to our bars and it clears.

Basically now we have a bunch of gussets to weld in and more welding and grinding to finish, as well as motor mounts and once the control arms are here we can finish the chassis and blow it apart for powdercoating.

Enough talking on with the pictures.

Re: TTTyphoon

Good deal using the second gen rear seats.. They are so much more practical than ours the way you can just put part of them down. Were those mock-up seats or are you going to have them recovered?

Yup and also notice the headrest as well for saftey. And yes the seat will all be recovered and the foam shaped and keeping with the original 92 style  just updated alittle bit.
